And now for an update on my roller skating adventures! Along with taking it back up I've also been getting back into Roller Derby very heavily. This started for me way back in the 70's when I first saw it on TV. It's seen kind of a resurgence lately and there have been some changes made since it first came out in the 30's(i think) The ladies now manage themselves and many of the leagues are non-profit and self sufficient. I was reintroduced by way of the A&E series "Rollergirls" I was motivated to check for any leagues in Colorado and found 3. I've gone to 2 Denver Roller Dolls bouts mainly because it's on Friday night and I'm off. I decided to volunteer my time to the league and ended up in the training program for becoming a ref. Along with the class on Wednesday, I went to a practice on Thursday night. I quickly found out why us new refs were encouraged to attend these practices. This gave me a whole new appreciation of what the girls go through to get in shape for the bouts. This was a 2 hour workout of exercise and skating drills that I could only do for like 1 hour and was sore for 2 days
I geuss I didn't get enough punishment since I'm going back for more tomorrow night. We're also going to have some sort of skating skills test. This concerns me a bit as I'm still in the process of getting back what I forgot after 20 years of inactivity. In a way I'm glad I decided to take skating back up since it's some form of exercise I really enjoy! I'm hoping I do well and can be a good ref for the league. I now also have a new pair of Skates!! The ones I used about 20 years ago have been quite painful on my feet. That may have been why I stopped. The new skates are speed skating style with a lower cut boot than the figure boots I had on the other skates. This means they might break in a little better and just in the short time I wore them tonight I noticed they are much easier on my feet. I'll be testing them for real tomorrow night.
That's all for now. Hope everyone has a very good day

Yay for you! I am glad you are doing that. I couldn't. I have a hard enough time walking...forget skating of any kind. I wouldn't mind watching though! I hope you have a nice weekend!! I might do another one...you never know.
