Ahhh Christmas....that special time of year when we think we should all spend wayyyy too much money to show each other how much we care. The older I get, the more jaded I get. Not that I don't love Christmas, I really, really, really do. Christmas Eve is by far, the most favourite day of the year for me. Not because Santa is coming, or the anticipation for the gifts I am about to receive/give. I enjoy being with my family watching movies, reading stories, playing games, drinking bailey's, wine and rye. Having nothing to do but enjoy the moment. No stress...and sheer indulgance.
But the radio and TV tells me Christmas should be something else....and the conversations I have and overhear with people are always about "I got so and so this...." or "I can't find blah blah toy". Am I guilty of it? Sure....I'm sure we are all...to a point. Its just a bit dissappointing for me what Christmas has become. Not that I want to sit around and talk about baby Jesus on Christmas day...shit I don't even go to church...and my religious views...welll, are almost non-existant. But at least recognize what your celebrating...whether you want to celebrate that portion is up to you....but tell your kids about it...fuck its a history lesson at the very least.
I simply don't like seeing Christmas as this Jugernaut Corporate Sell-out that it has become. Don't get me wrong, I do everything in my power to ensure that our kids/family have a wonderful Christmas. If they really really want something, then yes, they are almost certain to get it...however, I try and stress the other very important ideals of the holiday...family, togetherness, giving, beer...errr wait...scratch that last one...
Ok - done bitching about Christmas (you can tell I spent half the day Christmas shopping eh?)
So anyway, speaking of Christmas, my company may, or may not, strike as of...get this....Christmas day....wow...go figure huh? Good news? Welll...a strike won't be the end of the world like it will for some of my co-workers who actually tell me they will go bankrupt and lose there home (and still voted against the contract...wtf???). Bad news? It will almost certainly deplete my savings, which has JUST started looking good after 4 years. Great timing too...strike a week before we get our new pup....Which is not fully paid for....so here is the dilema...not get the dog, and basically save myself over $1000 and have to tell my 2 kids that we are not getting the pup after all...not mention my wife....OR say fuck it...and get the pup anyway and make my wife and kids happy...this decision took me all of 2 seconds to make. I will not dissappoint my children......
I also, somehow, got swindled into being the new Union Steward. Yep....Was nomiated by a few people, said I would run (I was a union steward in the past), and then changed my mind and withdrew...well...turns out that I won by a lot..even though I withdrew...and then was talked into doing it by co-workers, as there opinion was that everyone else that ran was a complete moron/fucktard....
So, here I am...newly appointed union Steward, and an impending strike....wow...So yeah, when people ask me questions, I do what my dad taught me....just make shit up....hahah
I'm done ranting....
