so a good friend of mine was arrested for what i will only describe as a non-violent offense. it makes me sad because i just read an article in the newspaper that described him in a very unsavory manner, when the reality is i've never met a more aware, centered and giving person. it's impossible to believe that this person is somehow a danger to the fabric of society, or that putting him in a cell will somehow "reform" him. this country likes to pride itself on being free when the reality shows that freedom is relative to your position, tax bracket, color and gender. gays can't marry. a 19 year old can't buy a beer but can go to a foreign country to get killed. what i do in my own home could result in my having to spend my life like an animal.
i'm ranting, i know. but it makes it makes me angry. sometimes it's difficult to digest how closed-minded the world is. but, in the grand scope of things, we really aren't that far removed from when we dragged our knuckles against the ground. some more than others.
Einstein said, "Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds." ain't that the truth?
