i got to spin at my first renegade party last night. a renegade party is where someone takes their soundsystem somewhere they are not supposed to and throws down. it was on the beach in the south part of SF. i found out Friday night i was spinning (so much for a notice).
so i'm driving there at 2 am when i hear on the radio that daylight savings time is going into effect and it is actually 3 am . . . oh shit, gonna be a late night. also, i'm supposed to spin at 3, so i'm hoping everyone else forgot about the time change. i get to the spot where i'm supposed to park and start walking into the hills that lead over to the Pacific. i see absolutely no one. keep walking, getting darker, still no one, no sound, i start wondering if the party has been cancelled. then i start wondering if i get jumped can i actually defend myself. finally i see two people walking towards me. hey! i know them!
so to get to the party i have to walk with 60 lbs. of records about half a mile up and down treacherous terrain that eventually pours out onto the beach. but there it is, a soundsystem strung with Christmas lights tucked away nicely between cliffs with the rough Pacific crushing along the shore. lots of fog so the city lights illuminated the area a little as well, but the full moon would have been better.
as it turned out i didn't even spin until 5:30 am. it was really fun, i played a lot of breaks, people were having a good time, and my partner went on after me as the sun began to rise with some lovely deep house.
unfortunately, i didn't get home till 7 am to pass out so i could get up and work today --- which sucked ass, but i'm staying away from that mental space.
also, i said goodbye today to Sicily as she is heading down to L.A. to start practicing for the SG Burlesque. good luck! plus, it give's Naiad and i a reason to go and kick it in L.A.
