Holy fucking shit.
Let me give a disclaimer. I'm an independent girl. I know I can do anything myself, and I hate playing the damsel in distress. That's what makes today so retarded.
This morning I get up extra early to fight the 18mph traffic so I can be to work on time. I get in the passenger side of the mini, start it up, clean it off, and get on the road.
15 minutes later I'm at work, early, and go to the back parking lot and park in front of my office's window. I go to get out. This is a problem.
The passenger side, WHICH I JUST OPENED 15 MINUTES AGO, is now frozen. I sit back and think. Calmly I call inside the office. I get the President of the company. He laughs. He comes outside. Manly man that he is, he yanks the doorhandle repeatedly.
The windows go up and down, the locks go up and down, but the doors just won't open. I am stuck.
He has no advice. The Mini dealer is 70 miles away..I don't have a garage at home..the only thing we can think of is take it to a Jiffy Lube or something. But there's no guarantee that it won't freeze on the ride back. Out of ideas, he goes back inside to get out of the -20 windchill. I now start to panic. I start to cry.
I call the boy. He reassures me it will be fine, and offers to come pick me up from work, and take me home so I can change for the company party, and then drive me to the party.
Good news as this is, I'm still pissed that I had to call him and ask for help. I hate asking for help. I'm not good at it.
Now back to the task at hand. Exiting the vehicle. Climbing out of a window would be okay, but I wouldn't be able to close it behind me. I can try to get out the hatchback, but I can't open it from the inside.
I call inside the office again. A designer who I've never said more than 4 words to comes out. I'm kinda surprised.
I put my window down and explain the situation.
He says "I had wanted to talk to you about this car."
I say "Oh yeah, how I shouldn't drive it in the winter right?"
He says "No, it's a sweet ride..what year is it?"
Argh. Okay. Just lemmie out.
He opens the hatch and folds down the seats. I emerge from my shiny blue prison. Just in time for my 8am meeting.
Bottom line is that the Mini dealer says "you're the 50th call we've gotten regarding that..you just have to wait until it gets warmer."
Excellent. My car will be sitting in the work parking lot for awhile I guess. In theory I could drive home, but someone would need to let me out of the hatch.
Yarrrrrgh.

I have a Mini S I love it. I have driven it in the snow twice now and it handles great. I had no problems with frozen doors yet. You should try putting Anti-freeze all around the doors and in the locks. This should help keep the doors from freezing up on you. I did this to an Opal GT I had as a teenager and it worked great. Good luck
