Some months ago, when everything seemed to go from great to crap in about a week, I was feeling pretty miserable, like nothing else could go wrong. I was so broke, I started buying my groceries from Walmart and I would mostly get the store brand. I can't stand Walmart. I wasn't supposed to be driving my car, because it wasn't safe until work was done to it. I was about to be three months behind on my teen's band fees and band camp was starting soon. My son had to be taken out of daycare because we couldn't afford it. Our newer nicer car's transmission crapped out... etc... etc... I could keep going on, but I'm not complaining right now.
As I was leaving Walmart with my store brand groceries and diapers that caused my son to have a rash. I was stopped at a red light. An SUV stopped to my right and there was a kid with one arm, looking as happy as can be, in the back seat. He wasn't just sitting there contently, he was smiling and laughing, playing with something. I looked at my arms, thought about my baby being healthy, looked at my store brand groceries and thought, "Damn, what am I complaining about... If he's happy with one arm, I should be happy with everything I have." After that, I did some thinking about how my procrastination and irresponsible decision making caused most of my problems. I haven't been able to fix it all or stop procrastinating and I'll probably make a lot more irresponsible decisions, but I'm working on it and making progress. I'm at a very significant point in my life right now and I'm fortunate enough to realize it.
I'd like to see the boy and his parents again to let them know. It seems like it would be nice to know you were a positive influence on someone's life.
