Finally home, after a very long day and a very busy past few weeks. Tomorrow is the first real time off I will have had in a while. I'm looking forward to spending it with the people I care about, and I hope that you are all able to do the same.
It's hard to work retail and not become cynical about the holidays, especially now that everything has become so commercialized. It's hard to see people putting themselves into debt, buying into the idea that only through material means can one express their love and appreciation. Crazy crowds, stress, and cutthroat shoppers. Guys, seriously, fuck that. Your family and friends are where it's at. You don't need to affirm your love for them through expensive gifts and fancy wrapping paper. One should give from the heart - not out of obligation.
Anyway.
I hope that you all are well, and please be safe.
Traffic is nuts, people are rushed and distracted and crazy shit happens. Don't get reckless. Be ten minutes late, pay $10 for a cab if you have to. It's not worth the stress, and it's not worth a body bag.
Merry Christmas
(and Festivus, for the rest of us.)
