As many of you know, I've struggled with anxiety and depression for years. But I have to say I'm very proud of myself and I've come a long way over the last few months. Today was the perfect example of this.
After work, I went to the North Florida VegFest where I stood in the rain for 20 minutes trying to talk with different vendors without much success. I couldn't get food because the lines were too long so I gave up and decided to leave. When I arrived at my car I noticed that someone had punched in my keyhole in an attempt to break into my car.
I kept my cool, check to see if anything was gone (luckily nothing was stolen) and drove home soaking wet, cold, and hungry.
Then I come home to a letter from my former employee saying they lost my w-2 at some point which is why I never received it, and my identity might have been stolen. Great.
Well I stayed calm still and decided to have a snack and a nap.
Later my girlfriend and I went to dinner with one of her coworkers and I had a nice local beer from Cigar City.
On the way home I suggested we stop and get coffee and go for a walk around the lake beside the coffee shop. Good thing I did! During our walk we came up to a sign a man had posted letting everyone know that the International Space Station was flying over the lake at 8:56. We saw the sign at 8:55 so we joined his crowd and we were able to see it!! It was the coolest thing I've seen in a long time. Just sitting by the lake and looking at the moon while drinking coffee with my lover was good enough but getting to see the space station (and Jupiter!) made my night even better.
So basically, I've learned not to let things get me down. I'm a much more positive person than I was a few months ago and I hope I can keep this attitude up.
