You know, each day we grow older, whether we like it or not, whether we even realize it or not, we learn as we go. As they say, experience is indeed the best teacher. But one view about the world that I've always held is that a country's leaders are a reflection of it's society. However, I cannot help but feel so blessed and lucky that I had the opportunity (as do you) to have come across George Carlin, and I cannot thank him enough for sharing his wisdom. For me, and it's totally ok if you think I'm a moron for feeling so, but he has taught me a lot about life, politics, yeast infections, and yogurt, but nothing more important than this:
"Americans will probably remain willfully ignorant of the big red white and blue dick that's being jammed up their assholes every day. And the owners of this country know the truth, it's called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it..."
Put aside the fact that the United States of America started out as hypocrisy, *ahem* the constitution (and no I have not read the entire thing, perhaps I should be the one who needs to be shot) being written while at the same time slavery was legal and women did not have the right to vote...but that to the side for a minute, this document was full of these ideas of checks and balances, and equality, and just like the holy bible, as time went on, it was misinterpreted and misunderstood and amended for the interests of a corrupt powerful group. I wish people would realize that Justice is not a natural phenomenon, it is a man made idea, so it doesn't surprise me in the least to see that mankind has always manipulated its own ideas for the profit of a particular group. Hasn't society always functioned like this though? At least as far back as documented history? Hasn't there always been one king or at best, just a selected few who get to run things? Isn't there or was there ever a certain country or city or town or community in which you were ridiculed for being greedy? Or one where you were thought of lowly if you did not accept equality? Does this exist or did it ever exist at some point in time? My point is that I'm absolutely 100% certain that there are people out there who are not rich, not famous, who would make EXCELLENT leaders in the public sector! Yet, for some reason, it's rich or famous or both who get elected into these public positions. Just as George says in the video, "It's a big club.....and you ain't in it!"
The day after the election results, I started seeing a lot of people saying how "If you didn't vote, you have no right to bitch about it." If you pay taxes, then you have every fucking right to complain about anything and everything government related whether you vote or not. Voting is not a human right, it's again, a social one. You see, this is one of those statements where I feel that I am absolutely 100% correct in my point of view but also fully admit that maybe I'm being ignorant but also admit, I don't care if I'm being ignorant. As the years go on, I'm actually becoming more and more disgusted with voting period. I don't understand the point of it. But then you have some people saying, "well, you should choose the lesser of two evils." Again, I don't see the logic in that. Why would I want to vote for someone who I don't like, even though I absolutely despise the other candidate? But furthermore, and I"m speaking as someone who has voted in the US and Greece, there never are any 'good' candidates anyway. One last thing about voting: Voting is a privilege, but it also must be done responsibly. Voting for someone just because you like their hair color is irresponsible. Voting for someone because they have a funny name is irresponsible. Voting for someone because they are the lesser of two evils is irresponsible. Voting for someone just so the other person doesn't win is irresponsible. I have voted irresponsibly, two times and in different countries, I don't think I'm ever going to vote again.
Some of you might be thinking right now that the election of Donald Trump might be one of the most horrific things you've ever seen. Well, early indications are, you might be wrong. Meet Mike Pence ladies and gentlemen
I'm not going to say much about him, this article says it all as far as I'm concerned. I do however want to find out more about one thing. Why does the subject of someone being gay bother people who are not gay? And I don't mean, just bother, I mean red faced I want to kill a motherfucker bother. Trump has since said that he will not seek to change any gay marriage laws etc. because it's already settled law. Yeah, Trump might not, but this motherfucker Pence seems very hell-bent on enforcing/introducing anything anti-gay. It's so goddamned heartbreaking to see this because gay rights have come a very very long way in the right direction. But you know, the biggest problem I have with this asshole is his whole Christian thing. A Christian Supremacist as noted in this article. This shit is for real and it doesn't look like he will have much resistance either. I swear to fucking god these people are some of the most dangerous criminals that have ever been alive because they hide behind something that strikes fear in the common person, when they themselves are in fact the biggest of sinners.
"And yes Mr. soon to be ex-president Obama, we can now proudly cling to guns, our religion, and now, our new president elect, Donald J. Trump.
It's very tempting for me to say some very nasty things about this woman, but I'm not going to. Even though I'm in my little corner of the world here, I'm not going to do it. Instead, I will say this, "Dear Mrs Pirro, when you say religion, you surely must be referring to a religion (s) other than Christianity because as far as I know, Jesus and Guns don't mix." But hey, maybe nowadays Jesus and guns do mix, as I said earlier, mankind has always found a way to manipulate certain doctrines or teachings so that it fits into their own agenda.
I am watching social change right before my eyes, and a dramatic change, and I don't know how to make sense of it. What I do believe is happening, and has been happening for a while, is the dramatic gap in regards to social classes. Now look, I don't necessarily support even the idea of any kind of social class, I mean it just so happens that the idea of every single person born on this earth having the exact same opportunities and access to education, are a very good idea in my opinion, but just to keep it simple, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. But when I came across this article, I don't think that I've ever felt more hopeless than ever before. The author is suggesting that perhaps there is a difference in how college educated women and non-college educated women think or react to sexual harassment, and relating that to how Donald Trump won. That maybe if a college educated woman who was at work in the office would call police/HR if she was sexually harassed vs. a woman who worked at a diner with no college, would just shrug it off. Ok, just a rant here, I'm not at all educated in regards to feminism or rights movements but gawd........why does a college degree matter in regards to accepting the fact that sexual harassment is not acceptable in any form under any circumstance anywhere?
I don't really have much stake in regards to who won the US election, I mean I don't live there anymore, but jesus fuck...it just feels like this administration will be bad for ALL of us.
I leave you with the following beautiful song, pretty much sums up what I'm feeling right now:
