@kaicito
I have to vote tomorrow. I say 'have to' because my family is insisting that I get a paper validating that I voted just in case something happens and I need to prove that I voted. Technically voting is mandatory here although never really enforced. So I am stuck having to vote when I don't want to vote. If you go according to the news, it looks like the second majority party here (SYRIZA) will be elected as the primary party. It is rather difficult for me to follow politics in this country due to language barriers. You see, when you read a newspaper here, it is written in 'official' or 'proper' Greek, meaning there are words that appear for which I know the 'common people' word or phrase, but the Greek language has ten words that can mean the same thing. So, it takes me forever to read just one article because I'm constantly coming across some word that I've never seen before and have to look it up in the dictionary. So, back to the elections, whoever wins tomorrow, one thing is for sure, there will not be any majority party to 'win it all' so basically the Greek government will consist of two major parties and like ten little ones so it will be the same thing...literally, the exact same thing. The only thing that will be different are the names. You see, when I go to vote tomorrow, I will have over forty parties to choose from. Any party that gets at least 3% of the vote, gets parliament seats. Isn't that absurd??? So basically there will be two major parties, and like ten little parties and all they will do is bicker at each other over things in the past, and will get paid to accomplish nothing. Here's the thing, despite all my whining, despite however right or wrong I may be, this is exactly what ordinary Greek citizens want. This country is only 10 million, and everyone does as they see fit. There is no organization, there is no auditing system, and there is corruption everywhere, not just the politicians. It's almost a matter of "if I vote for this party, I know I'll get to do such and such deduction on my taxes," yes it sucks and all, but it's what the people want. I tend to come up with some out of the ordinary type thoughts on life and all, but I know one thing for a fact: You get what you put in. Shit goes in, shit comes out. A country's government is a reflection of it's citizens, these corrupt assholes didn't just fall out of the sky and into elected positions, they were put there by the people. that's the other thing, well over half of these fucktards are elected based on their profession, i.e. doctors, lawyers, etc. etc. they have absolutely no qualifications to be in government, the other half of the fucktards are relatives of previous government officials. Greeks tend to vote for families when it comes to government. I was told that back in the 80's, the political parties were actually bribing people that if the voted for them, they would in turn get jobs with the government. Socialism at it's best. And the result? An overwhelming amount of unqualified people in government jobs, and worst of all, these people and families were dependent on their government. So years later, it gets discovered that, holy fucking shit, we don't have any money to pay these people, so they were forced to lay people off. Lay people off who weren't supposed to have these jobs in the first place..........and people were pissed..........so the prime minister at the time, Mr. Papandreou, was forced out and resigned. Do you know that this motherfucker is running for the same position again?
I understand how I am doing therapy to have a more positive image and positive way of thinking, but there are a few things in this society that really upset me and I just can't, can't, can't look at it from a positive point of view. I have just given an example of Greek politics, but it's not like it's better anywhere else in the world. I was alive during the Reagan administration, but was just a kid so I don't really know what he did for the country, good or bad. Same goes for the first bush. Bill Clinton I remember I liked for some reason, I dunno, maybe cause he played the saxophone......but everyone knew what Mr. "I smoked but did not inhale," was all about, yet he got elected and re-elected. There's one blatant lie. I also seem to be under the impression that people forget, slick willy also lied under oath when giving testimony about his relationship with Mrs. Lewinsky, what happened to him? Nothing. Then we had my best anti-christ friend, george dubya bush.......many people believe he 'stole' the election, but to me it's a moot point. George asshole Bush is the only president who has the distinction of being elected president while losing the popular vote......democracy at it's best. 2004 was the only time in my life I ever exercised my right to vote, and I was going to vote for anyone, for anything other than Bush, and he got re-elected. I thought it was a slam dunk that people wouldn't vote for him because he's a fucking idiot, turns out I was the fucking idiot and those who did vote, said haha, we want more Bush. I did not vote in 2008 cause I didn't give a shit anymore, I voted here in Greece for the first time in 2012 cause I was happy about my newly obtained Greek citizenship, but those elections didn't count and the country had to do a re-vote a month later, of which I did not participate in because I had to go back to the army. Tomorrow marks the third time in my life that I will vote and I'm so unhappy about it because it's useless.
There is one striking similarity between the US and Greece when it comes to voting and that is that many years ago, people died so that there could be freedom and express our opinions and have the right to vote. I am 100% positive, they did not envision a voting system in which whomever you vote for, you lose. I am just one person. I cannot change the powers above, so therefore, I have accepted my place in this world as a pee-on and just hope that I can live in environments where politics will not affect me and I can live a lifestyle that I enjoy and is allowed under whatever government it is above me. Politics to me are at their best when it's on a 'local' level. There are way too may powers that be that influence the world, so voting on a national level for any given party is in my opinion, useless cause it doesn't matter. In these situations, I always refer to the magnificent movie "Idiocracy" in which it is stated that rather than using intelligence for good things, it is used on how to keep your cock stiff and make you grow hair when your ninety years old.
