This is the first time in two weeks that Ive had more than a few seconds in the evening to relate my thoughts, primarily because Ive been spending my nights working on this Ecstasy Of Blood half-hour bit of music. EOB is still only a working title, but I like it okay. Just thinking about it makes me a little light-headed because I do indeed have this fascination/fear of blood. Its something that I think I need to teach myself to get over, however, and apparently the best way to do that is through immersion therapy.
Of course, that kind of implies Im going to go out and slaughter a goat and bathe in its entrails and juices, but no, I havent gotten quite that weird. Not yet, anyway.
Rather, Im going to make music and create accompanying imagery that directly concerns the ageless symbolism associated with our crimson life-fluid.
That, and Im going to go get new ink next week, if everything goes well. This time, itll be my right arm, and a pretty large piece, so itll likely require at least two sessions.
In fact, Im walking down to Avalon Tattoo II tomorrow after work to talk with the trusted and admired artist Mike to discuss this next inking, and to see how he might want to contribute to the piece. To anyone wanting new ink, or even adding on to something that someone else might have done, its hard to beat the fun and comfort that comes with working with Mike.
I hope Im in that chair looking out onto Ohio and Adams with that needle in my arm soon. (Thats what Im telling myself, anyway. Got to remember: fear is the mindkiller!) -- Y
