CAVLDRON THREE <> THIS HOLLOW COST.
[ Now playing in Demon Tribe Hollow... Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush from The Kick Inside ]
The surname Bush would forever leave in awful taste in my mouth if it wasn't for the exquisite Catherine. I really can't think of another female voice that is more incredibly and beautifully recognizable. Even Bjork, while obviously an amazing talent in her own right, certainly owes Kate more than a small debt of gratitude.
But more about KB in the near future.
Over the past day or so, there've been some radical changes going on at work. I think they're all for the best, but unfortunately I'm not at liberty to discuss any of them. Hopefully, I'll be able to at some point soon, however.
For now, suffice to say that my day job consists of working from home, doing Internet development for a marketing company in north San Diego. While perhaps not the most exciting career, I find most of the work at least somewhat enjoyable. Also, come April of this year, I'll have been with the company for six years, which is a major milestone for me. (Before this job, the longest I had ever been with a company was just about two and a half years.)
Anyway, I was out last night in Bonita (an area of south San Diego) with my best friend here in town and her boyfriend. We ate at what turned out to be an amazing choice for dinner, that being Romesco. I started with the hummus and salmon carpaccio and then shared an entree of paella, which was nothing short of a transcendent experience. And the Tempranillo we all had (from the Dama Del Toro winery in Barrica, Spain) wasn't bad, either, though for some reason it was chilled and the tannins were a bit too pronounced for me.
Then it was off to see Silver Linings Playbook, which was a film I'd been meaning to see for a while now. Apparently, we'd barely caught the tail end of its theatrical run, as I noticed a lot of theaters were no longer showing it, despite its overwhelmingly positive critical reception.
Like my fondness for Kate Bush, I expect people that don't know me well would never expect that I'd have a fondness for the gentler aspects of the arts, but I really do appreciate the contrast to my more caustic side. I loved watching the movie, and it's times like those that I allow myself to be far more vulnerable and emotionally naked. I have a devil's tail tattooed on my left arm and I'm going to get some kind of Lovecraftian, tentacled horror on my right in a month or two. But at the same time, I'll be damned if I don't truly enjoy a well-made romantic comedy/drama, as well as a song based on a book by Emily Bronte about a torrid love affair.
And so tonight I switched right back around with a 180 and finished watching Clive Barker's Lord Of Illusions, which was nice, but not thoroughly impressive. The former star of Quantum Leap just doesn't seem to quite have it in him to pull off a grizzled dark horse of a P.I.
