IX. ADMINISTRATION OF THE LAST RITES
[ Now playing on the Severe Trauma Sounds... The Man Who Loves To Hurt Himself by Today Is The Day from Temple Of The Morning Star ]
Just got back from my first date of the week, and though there was no magic, it was definitely better than I thought it would be.
She was a Creole girl, two years younger than I, and works as an independent auto insurance claims adjuster.
I've always been fascinated with that line of work because the only time I've associated with those people is when I've been absolutely miserable. (And, of course, misery fascinates me.)
She had many interesting stories to tell, to all of which I listened attentively. The trippiest one was about the time she had to total out a car because a cheating wife and her lover were caught at that moment by the insured, the wife's husband.
Laid into both of them with a hatchet apparently like no one's ever been laid into before. My date saw the photos, and she said there must have been a hundred hatchet slashes to their bodies.
Now that's some serious rage, the likes of which I can barely imagine.
Most gruesome thing she'd ever seen, she said, and I believe her. With an attack of that intensity, bodies stop looking like bodies.
Just ask Liz.
The hammer must fall.
