i went to the circus on thursday. my mother took me and darian and kaden to see barnum and bailey's circus in hershey. the circus was fun, but i would have loved to have been able to go to hershey park while we were there. it was incredibly not crowded at the park, and it was hot, so it probably would have been a good time. except for the fact that darian won't ride anything without my mother or me with him, and kaden likes darian to be with him.
so we get to the parking lot of the giant center, where the circus was being held *strangely, they combined the entrance for the giant center with the entrance and parking for hershey park itself* and just before we turn in, darian throws up everywhere. my mother almost puked all over the steering wheel of her nice little rental car *her car is waiting on parts to come in so it can be fixed from the chick that rear-ended it because she was talking on her cell phone while driving mommy's car instead of paying attention to the goddamned road like she was supposed to be doing* and we didn't have any changes of clothes for the kids so we had to turn around, leave the giant center, go to k-mart and buy a new outfit for darian. now, i thought the kids were past the phase in their lives when i had to carry around changes of outfits for them. i thought that was a newborn phase. i mean, my kids don't get all that dirty, and i see no need to pack so much stuff for a five hour trip. but i forgot darian's little problem of occasionally vomiting in the car when he's in it for more than half an hour. my bad....
but the circus was great fun. i think i enjoyed it more than the kids. perhaps the kids were too young. darian was pissy and kaden was tired, well they were both tired which was why darian was acting bratty... the youngest contortionest got on top of a pyramid-type deal and stuck her butt on top of her head, which i found pretty interesting. and the tigers were cool, although i had to laugh at the one tiger who wanted nothing to do with the trainer. all he did was swipe at the whip and snarl and do whatever the hell he wanted. a tiger after my own heart, there. one of the tightrope walkers could have used a bit of polishing, and the stunt people who stood on levers to get thrown up in the air and land on top of other people could have used a bit more practice, but overall it was a good show.
i haven't been to the circus since i was in sixth grade. that's 15 years ago...so yeah. no monkeys, which my mother pointed out as we were leaving.
and now, it's on to my book, which i have almost finished, although i read it years ago. i've been delving into my stash of books and reading ones i haven't read for a very long time, because even stephen king gets old after awhile. i find it difficult to find good books with good writing AND a good plot line...i've found lots of books with good plotlines and horrible writing, and a few with decent writing but horrible plots, and those things detract from the book, for me. i can read a book with bad writing and a good plotline every once in a while, but what i really crave is just a good book. so i shall run back to my book now, because .... i get bored quickly online...
happy memorial day, everyone!
