I took the Foreign Service Exam this Saturday. If I get selected, the State Department pays me $32,000-$68,000 a year starting pay (which increases significantly after two years) just to travel the world and promote US goals, etc. How much I make depends on the danger, cost-of-living, and skills needed to serve in whatever country you get assigned to. I'm thinking that learning Arabic and heading to Bagdad would get me the most money, but then again, I have to live to spend it. Tokyo sounds good though.
I took it once already and failed. Last year, they asked a lot of economics questions which I didn't have the first clue about. So, I went back to school last fall with intro to macro and micro-economics at CPCC here in Charlotte. I think I dominated that test, rough as it was. I felt like I didn't stand much of a chance last time, and I failed, but I have my BA's now and had little difficulty with the economics questions, so I feel pretty confident. I will find out in June how I did. Wish me luck (that was not a request, but a demand).
