Ok so I just spent about 6 hours playing the new Mortal Kombat released today, er yesterday actually. The Konquest mode in this game is fantastic. It's pretty much like Shaolin Monks, and the storyline just doesn't let you put down the controller no matter how frustrated you are that you can't get defeat the next warrior. This game has gone a long way since the very first MK on the arcade back in 1995. I remember going to the arcade, I was about 8 years old, seeing a crowd of people around some random game. I kept trying to see what it was and for the longest time all I could hear were the sound effects, and those just made me want to see what the hell the deal was. I was only ever able to catch bits and pieces of the screen since I was so small and everyone around me was huge. What I saw fascinated me, and everytime the weekend came along I would ask my dad to take me just so I could watch the "big kids" play Mortal Kombat. The people I watched play were amazing at this game and were doing all these special moves and fatalities like it was nothing. There was always the one kid who could never be beaten too. He knew everything there was to know about Mortal Kombat. I never played on the arcade in front of people because I was afraid haha. Even so I only played the arcade a few times as a kid, but when it came out on the SNES, it was the end of the world for me. I would play the game endlessly on my own and with my neighbor. Then MKII comes out and it was the same. The best thing I remember doing was facing Noob Saibot for the first time, and being amazed at how impossible he was...he was SO DAMN FAST. In order to face him a player would have to get 50 consecutive wins in versus mode or arcade mode. If you think about how long that takes at 2 rounds per match....yeah....lol.
And so it goes on MK3, MK4, 5, 6, and now the 7th installment of the story. This game just brings back so many damn good memories, from being scared shitless fighting Goro at 1 AM to playing Mortal Kombat in "real life" to watching the GamePro special on Mortal Kombat 3, lol (GamePro actually had it's own tv show on saturday mornings that was AWESOME).
I am glad they finally released a Mortal Kombat with every single character from all of the games. To top that off there is space for two more characters, which YOU yourself are able to create. I remember thinking about that as a kid, creating your own fighter. Technology has finally made it possible. Looking at games then and prior to SNES (my first game ever was Mario on the NES woohoo!), and then looking at games now just blows me away. Even consoles before the NES. TECHNOLOGY IS INSANE.
That is all I have to say minus this....
MORTAL KOMBAT!
