I'm going to try something new here
I have a calendar in my bedroom called "Peace Calendar ." Each month day has a little factoid or something on it.
Today is Cinco de Mayo
(Mexican holiday commemorating the 1862 defeat of French forces at Peubla.
yesterday in 1970- 4 Kent State University students were killed and 13 were wounded in Kent, OH during a protest against the US invasion of Cambodia.
Thursday may 3rd was World Press Freedom Day, also in 1971 - May day action against Vietnam war results in the largest mass arrests in US history 14,000 ppl shut down the war machine for 3 days. In Washington DC.
I think I'll try to post daily (we'll see how long I can keep that up.)
I went to the Renaissance Cafe last night, and saw my first Poetry slam/reading/spoken word thing. I didn't stay for the whole thing (it really fucking sucks not living in the city.) But I did see Shane Koyczan (just absolutely amazing) and this poet I'd never heard of before but she just blew me away, Amanda Hiebert.
oh and one last thing, some friends of mine are playing The Rivoli this friday. If you've got time check them out they're called "We are the Take."
