Spent the whole weekend in Chicago with my lovely girlfriend. She goes to a sci-fi convention every year called WindyCon. I'm no sci-fi afficionado, so I wasn't really sure what to expect by this mass collection of geeks, nerds, brainiacs, mopey lonely boys, ren fair dressup women, and wannabe writers. On our first day at the hotel we saw a few slightly unconventional people- a few star trek uniforms, a couple cloaks, lots of leather, a bit of cleavage. But it wasn't until Saturday night that I got the full dose of nerdliness and I was high and overwhelmed. I passed stormtroops, darth vader, battlestar galactica uniformed men, space-age guards, bounty hunters, futuristic nosferatu! And let's not forget the ladies- cleavage, renaissance dresses, vinyl-fit dresses, cleavage, cat ears, fairies, cleavage, damsels, schoolgirls, and more cleavage.
And although I don't completely relate to most of the folks at this thing, I'm glad my GF convinced me to go for no other reason than I got a weekend away with her. Much bad food was eaten, much smoke was inhaled, and the world was our oyster.
I bought a flowing pirate/poet shirt at the dealer's room. It looks quite good on me- pictures soon.
