I work at a radio station. What I do is manage our in-house creative services. If a client wants to use an advertising agency to put their ad or promotion together, they pay them to write, produce, and send me (and other stations) the resulting commercial. if the company doesn't want to deal with a third party, they come to us..
i write copy, assign spots to voice talent or producers. i voice and produce myself as well. i make sure the content of the commercials we run is not outdated. i change or rewrite ads as needed.
i enjoy it, though it's a strange existence. i'm so anti-corporate, such a socialist in many ways, that i could see how someone with the views i share would look at me as a sellout.
but what i do is fun, pays decent, and gives me health insurance. i don't want to do it forever, but it's a good job.
tonight, my roommate jeremy said, "you know, i was listening to the station you work for on my way up to indy today. and i kept hearing your voice and you were saying the most stupid, boring things."
and i was like, "uhhh...thanks. it's fun doing my job."
and he said, "i'm sure it's fun. it's just stupid."
now i can't tell if it hurt my feelings so very much because...
a. i'm in a funk right now anyway so my confidence is down.
b. even though i enjoy my job, i know how evil advertising really is and my job creates some self-loathing.
or
c. he's just an ass for even bringing it up to me.
maybe a bit of each?
either way it made me feel like shit.
but at least i get to do my radio show tomorrow afternoon.

Everyone wanted me to be Violet, but we didn't end up doing it. The friend who hosted the Halloween thing every year bought a new house and didn't have the money for props and such. (He dumped $2000 into "Jack the Ripper").
