just saw "24 Hour Party People" and "Velvet Goldmine" within about 24 hours of each other...plus the recent MOJO magazine had a post-punk c.d. attached to it so i have 70's British punk and No-Wave going through my head constantly, which makes me feel like i'm in high school again...which isn't too bad, i guess...

i like ewan macgregor and everything, but did anybody else...

i never made it all of the way through VELVET GOLDMINE, but i wanted to. i really did. i watched it after i had just watched about four other movies.

i got the most-recent MOJO magazine with the puke limited edition puke punk feature... i liked the pictures and some small interviews with jake burns and tv smith/gaye advert and gene october, but for the most part, it reminded me of every reason i hate journalists who say punk is dead.

the weather is beautiful...i think i'm going to skip the gym and go walk outside somewhere...

today's weather is as nice as the weather was shitty the other day...and i finally got some sleep...i have been working in the studio a lot lately trying to get some work in shape for the NOVA show at the end of the month...probably my 2 biggest influences right now are japanese prints (Hokusai, Hiroshige) and punk rock flyers...and i realized lately that i have...

man is the weather shitty today...i

haven't had a lot to say in these things because

1. who reads them really...? i know only a handful of people on the site
2. where do you even start?

my favorite entries to read are always the long rambling fuckers that read like a short story but ultimately have some point...i have no point that i am...

losing a sketchbook is like losing a fucking finger... i gave one away once, and i don't regret it, i gave a highschool sketchbook to the kid who's companionship got me through highschool... and he knew how much it meant that i did that.

i read your journal btw. you just usually leave me very little to comment on...
girl303:
i can't imagine losing my journals. it would be a nightmare. it really is true, i think, that if u don't write things down, it's like they didn't happen. it's too easy to forget shit. i am trying to write down more specifics, like places and stuff, to trigger my memory when i'm an old lady...oh wait, i am old. wink

i don't really like long rambling journals, as far as reading goes. i like paragraphs and short parts. if i see something too long, it is sometimes more of a commitment than i am willing to make.

u will escape your cubicle if u want to...but, unfortunately, insurance and benefits are a neccesary evil. esp. with the kid and all. you'll figure it out.

and hey, what am i, chopped liver!??!?! tongue

just kidding.

...so the show went pretty good...hung the work on friday...the space was just a cavern, so it was tough to fill it...not out best show but there are some hot spots...it's good practice, because i just found out the group got into the Nova show, which is this year's equivalent of the Stray show, which was the lo-fi (and i would say better) counterpart to...

This might be long:

So I'm talking to this woman at work who lives in Pullman and she was telling me about how her garden club is going to have a show at the Berverly Arts Center. So, just in passing, trying to make conversation, I say, "Have you been there lately?"
And she says "What's lately?" and I say, "I dunno, a week or two?"
"Oh, no, why?"
"Well, I've got a friend who has a show there, and I'd really like to go, but Beverly is so hard to get to without a car."
"Seven reasons to leave your house?"
"What"
"Is it Seven Reasons to Leave Your House?"
"Are you asking if that's the name of the show? I don't know."
So she picks up her copy of the Daily Southytown and says "Well, if it was, that's really weird, because I just read an article about it. What's your friend's name."
And then I was horribly embarrased, because clearly I do not know your last name--I know it's listed on your site but I don't know which you are, and maybe I shouldn't have said "friend" in the first place but what else can you say, this guy I've talked to on the internet a coupole of time? what kind of bs is that? and so I tried to buy some time, pretended I didn't hear, tried to grab the paper from her and finally said, "Well, his name probably wouldn't be in there but it's the Big Fun collective." And then we realize that it is you! Hooray!

In short, I saw the article about your show. Congrats!

i guess tomorrow night will be pretty happening, culturally, on my beloved South side...there is the show at the Beverly Art Center (which will feature work by the nationally known artists' collective "No-Fun" )...and after that at a bar called Stash Leahy's on old Western, there will be 3 bands playing a benefit for the local roller derby team (i didn't even know we had...

Cool. I dig your website....I guess I'm just curious it you can recommend any Chicago galleries that are at least slightly respectable but will still look at the work of people with very, very short resumes. I'm pretty much paralyzed because, it's like, you know, I can't afford to have a million copies of my slides, so I can really only have stuff sent out to one person at a time, and then I get all concerned, like, maybe it's not the right one, maybe there's something right around the corner and I'm going to find this perfect gallery and then I'm not going to have slides and I have to wait like two months for them to come back and so I just dont do anything.

I am a geek like that.
