the trouble with toy hacking is that it's either a fuck-lot of work, or it's really expensive. often both.
jimbobwan.com had the advantage that he scratch-built most of his stuff, so he didn't worry so much about assembling prefab parts.
i've never liked messing around with sculpting and paint and etc. i'm lazy and i don't trust my skillz. so i like the prefab, but that has limitations that nobody ever makes exactly what you need.
i could do a really really nice trinity custom out of a microforce catwoman, but there's two problems. one, the head. no idea. two, the arms. i'd either need a devilman silene, who is easily found, but doesn't have normal hands, or i'd need a fleshtone material force girl, who is impossible to find and hella expensive.
the hands can be worked around, so it's silene. the head is still bugging me. and then i'd need to make neo and morpheus and smith, and ugh. i could just leave it at trin.
but again, the head.
also, silene is $25 or so in a 2pack with devilman, which is cheap compared to the material force, but not really cheap. add 15 for the catwoman, plus a head, plus hands from a third microlady with black hands. i don't know about this anymore.
then again, it'd be a sublimely simple custom once i find the head. just an arm swap and i'm done.
this is an easy one.
i need a $50 spiderman/doc ock 2pack for the big cloth coat the doctor wears, for a hellboy custom. i can barely convince myself to pay $50 for a coat for MYSELF. and yet i'm desperate to get this coat for hb because it's exactly what i want.
never mind that his hb custom requires more work than i'm likely to ever do.
i have big ideas and no drive to finish them. once i've solved the problem in my head, i'm done with it and i've lost interest. at that point i just want someone else to do the work, i'd rather pay them for it.
maybe that's what i should do, commision work from other people.
or start a toy company and work as head designer.
