i'd forgotten how beautiful a nice cloud cover could be. walking out of target and seeing all the roiling masses up there, jagged shapes and impending rain.
i love portland.
alaska had nice clouds too, small wonder since they're just up the continent from here. i'd move to washington, which is the same climate as portland only with more snow in the winter, but washington is kinda bleah. seattle is like portland gone wrong. the urban growth boundary is good, people!
although you wouldn't know there was an urban growth boundary if you went out to beaverton. fucking sprawl. in fifty years portland city limits will be the state line and the pacific ocean.
and seattle will just become north portland. heh.
anyways, why move to washington when i can live at the beach instead? the oregon coast rules. everybody there is happy, because they're either on vacation, or they live at the beach.
except people in tillamook. i can't say i blame them, since tillamook is like five miles from the coast. not far enough that you can't get there, but too far to walk. every other coast town is literally on the beach, and the only people who have to seriously drive from their homes to the sand are the people who live on the hills with amazing views.
but people in tillamook... there's no hills, so there's no ocean view. there's no coast right in town, so you have to go to another town to hit the beach. and there's nothing worth visiting except the cheese factory, so there's no tourism, and no jobs, and the town is slowly dying.
no wonder they hate being alive. the only thriving businesses in town are the cheese factory, mcdonalds, and fred meyers.
manzanita. that's where it is at. i'm going to move there, buy an empty lot on top of one of the hills, and build a tower.
