I can't stress more strongly how difficult 2008 was for me, and look forward to what has to be a better 2009. frown

After being laid off of a job I held for 15yrs, just as I was getting myself outta of a deep hole of debt, I found myself starting from square one in the job market.
I searched & searched, taking one job after the other, but I never felt ANY desire or passion in what I was doing, plus in the back of my mind, if I could be let go by a Company I put so much into, why should I give a damn about any crap job I get.
I decided I needed to use what I luv, ART, to make a living, and became a apprentice in Tattoo, as well as getting into my first love-Comic-Books.
This is how 2008 started, with loads of promise, but unfortunately, at the moment, little reward.

ARRR!!!
Taking the time to learn Tattoo financially killed me, and self-publishing Comic-books does not yield profits in the short-run.

I was able to take a trip to the San-Diego Comic-Con in July, which had its highs & lows:
I was able to meet with some great professionals in the business at the portfolio review area, and gained some great advice that I am taking full advantage of today.
BUT I have yet to recover financially since then, but more importantly, a close friendship I had with someone dear to me, through no one's fault but my own, became strained. Something I still haven't fully resolved.
frown

I'm finally making percentage as a Tattoo artist, but its a hard road to recovery, and the winter time is not a busy one as far as Tattoo goes. The Economy killed the Freelance market as well(I can always get a few Gigs for the Holidaystongueortraits, Murals, etc, but not this year)
I've had every problem you can imagine: Rent, Phone, Cable, Gas. & because of my tightening of the belt, I've had to sacrifice my social life quite a bit.
I didn't even go out for NEW YEARS! AAARRGHH!!!

Well, enough moping about. I've been promised that the Tattoo picks up big time after the Holidays, so I'm giving more time with the hope I can really make a good living at it. If not, I gotta look for new endeavors.
Plus I'm getting back to the Comic-Book & developing my Photo editing skills.
wink

So here's to 2009.

Here's to somethin' better around the corner. biggrin
