well, in ct the journeyman carpenter's rate is $28 and change per hour plus about half that in benefits, and anything over 8 hours is time and a half. sundays, holidays, and anything over 8 on saturdays is doubletime. i'm the highest level apprentice you can be and in a few months i'll be journeyman. so i make $22.65

what's the pound? is that something like double the dollar now? the sparks make something like $35 an hour here, so i think it's close to what you make in value.

there's alot of guys like the one you described. my buddy eric told me about the time some old guy was acting like that and eric said "look, you're an old man and i don't want to hit you, but i'm gonna tell you now to back off before i lose it." the guy didn't back off and eric grabbed him by the shirt and pushed him through a framed wall without the sheetrock. they bent up a bunch of the studs and the old guy never bothered him again. but everyone knew he was a dick and eric didn't really "hit" the guy so nothing bad happened. there's a few guys i've thought of following out to the parking lot. most of those guys lose their nerve when the boss isn't around to get you in trouble.

yea, i just told my steward today that if they're laying people off soon, they can put me on that list. he said in a week or 2. so, the time i've been on that job has given me some money in the bank but i just can't keep up. someone else from the union hall can go fill that position and get those hours and exchange their money for their social life. i wonder how many people in the trades get divorces because they work too many hours.
