I watched Dead Man last night. Good shit.
"He fucked them, shot them, cooked them, ate them."
Jim Jarmusch is definitely an acquired taste, but it's a very gratifying sort of appreciation. Coffee and Cigarettes caught me unawares, as I was not prepared for the dense layers of the fantaticism he receives at the hands of others.
What else... watched Vertigo again for the first time in several years the other evening... god, I love that movie. It's such a fucking perfect example of 'obsession', 'betrayal', 'vengance', and all of that jazz. Very much a piece stuck in its time (the gender roles are the hilarity), but with a shockingly gratifying ending.
Mmm, I love netflix. I wonder if I should watch Amadeus tomorrow?
As you may have noticed, the focus is not on schoolwork (guh? buh?) but on movies. I'm making a promise to myself that as the schoolwork gets more intense, I'm going to make an active effort to just... try to get a BIT of non-acadeimc submersion every day, be it movies or daily show. This is my semester to actually have something to look forward to when I get home...
No, really! I've decided to make this an ACTIVE CAMPAIGN! I'm getting the hell out of not... doing... stuff. Imma read COMICS and shit! (note to self: locate 4th TPB of Y: The Last Man, because the comic book library sure as hell doesn't have it.) Maybe I should rent all of the first season of 24 and watch it all in one sitting. I don't know, but look out for Scylla... unleashed!
(insert weird jpg here involving parakeets)
...something to do besides shuffling briefly through SG & jerking it. I'll READ and POST and JERK with pride!
On a wholly unreleated/but not note, I have a problem... recently, when I fire up a media player (divx, vlc, etc) to watch an avi, it says that I'm missing the filters to best view the video and the frame rate either goes to shit, or the video looks all weirdly compressed, like low-quality jpegs. Does anyone have a solution? My drivers are all up-to-date and I've tried uninstalling the media player software on my computer.
I even went to an art show/coffeeshop opening today. Although I can't find the works online anywhere at the moment (but the internet should have EVERYTHING, and very nicely filed, as well!), it's pretty incredible work... desert landscapes from the 1800s, digitally combined with rover footage of Mars. This composite footage was then exposed onto film and then that film was developed and the digital negatives printed out in the darkroom. Although that technology makes perfect sense, it still kind of blows my mind... it's so REMOVED from everything that makes me fall in love with photography. You know? I suppose the artist did what he could by intensifying that effect and making images as wholly removed/hybrid as possible... but it still kind of troubles me.
At least I bought yarn today.
I cried for a good half hour today, mainly due to the fact that I -- once again -- am NOT going to see Interpol next week. This is the third time when they've come into town that I've been unable to obtain tickets. Bah. I'm sure it's a sign of some sort, but I'm just too obtuse to get the message.
I knitted a hat for myself the other day! I will have to post pictures at some point. I'm absurdy proud of it. It even is short and ends high on my head to allow of pigtails. YEAH!
Do you think that you would like an ipod shuffle?
This only requires three referrals, which is very pleasantly instant-gratification-near-to. That preposition sitting on the end of that sentence is very distressing!
Hey, that was a pretty good entry. Rock.
