I have to say, the near instant gratification of getting tips on the job is fucking amazing. I mean, I make minimum wage here, hourly, so the actual "hourly wage", including tips, isn't anything to really write home about, but it just feels good to walk out of a day's work with more actual money in your pockets than you started your shift with. It's automatic compensation, psychological validation (other than banana stickers).
I am somewhat distraught, also, that my currently ever-changing schedule prevents any attempts to game, for the time being. I'm talking D&D and the like, here, mind. While I might be quite enthused when my next paycheck hits (OMG overtime, 4 srs), the lack of being able to pretend to be an elf or an orc or some bint of an enchantress or whatever is kind of bugging me. Particularly now that I can afford to sink money into buying books.
