I bought a 1959 Ford Galaxie Fairlane 500 yesterday for cash! $1400 - I'm pretty damn excited about it. Same car I was looking at about a year ago but vanished into thin air before I could get the owner to meet up with me. Then last week it shows up in my own town about 2 miles from my house. I saw it coming home late one night and about killed myself trying to make a quick u-turn. It was dark but I knew it was the same car the second I saw it. I knew right then it was meant to be. So I met up with the owner today and my boy had already talked him down a $1000 from what he wanted for it last year. I told him I wanted to take it to have it checked over by my mechanic a few small towns over (about 20 minutes away). Then he dropped the price another $100 if I would buy it within the next two days without taking it to see my mechanic - plus he didn't want to have it on the road without a tag or insurance. So we parted ways to think it over. I drove the car around the dirt lot next to the NAPPA store it was parked next to and we looked over the car real good for any body problems. Minor rust. I got in touch with my mechanic who just happens to be the nicest guy on earth and wasn't busy. So out of interest and the kindness of his heart stopped by with his wife (also works at their shop) and looked over the car for any huge glaring problems. He was in awe with the car considering the asking price and gave me the go. Less than five minutes later the owner, Buddy, was driving back by after his errands and saw us just as we were trying to contact him. I told him I wanted the car, so we ran down to the bank 10 miles away and handed him a Cashier's Check 20 minutes later. I already had the keys and drove my new baby home. Now Buddy just has to find the title for me but no big deal if he doesn't. We can go and get a copy if needed in the town over or if that doesn't work you can always send off to Alabama for a "lost title" replacement. Can't wait to start working on cleaning and fixing her up!!
This past weekend I somehow managed to acquire a Panamania Red-Eyed Tree Frog as well as a Malaysian Painted Chubby Frog. I gave my niece an old skate board from the mid 80s complete with Slime Balls wheels and those funny plastic side guards. She hadn't been riding it at all and my friend Vynee was really excited about it and wanted to buy it from her. Since I knew and liked him and he was so excited about it I gave her the Ok. Then he mentioned having the frogs for some reason and offered them as a trade. We took a look at them and she wanted them. So she asked her Dad who said "no" because they don't have heat in the Winter. I offered up taking them for the Winter and he said "yes". Then as we show up at her place with the frogs, two aquariums, top light, crickets, tank stand and various other things he comes out and says "no" and gives her a "I don't trust you with small animals" lecture instead. Not given the chance, she'll never learn. So I gave her $10 feeling sorry about the bad trade and took everything off to my place. After researching these guys I'll need to make new habitats for them. they'll be better off with me in the longrun. They are quite amazing frogs. I'm already working out the tree frog's release to Central America with my parents (who plan to visit again), but I'm afraid nobody is making a trip to Malaysia anytime soon for the other little chubby frog.
For the past two weeks I've been feeling sick but according to my electronic thermometor I should be dead. It has been telling me for days on end now that I've had a temperature of 101 to 102. I have had a fever but not that constant. And other than the fever I have few symptoms. So today I was feeling better than usual and it says 102.6.... what? So I tried a different thermometer and it says 99.9 (Yup, like the Suzanne Vega song). Ok, now I know I feel better. Especially now that I don't think I have the Nile Virus or Lyme Disease (from ticks). Not that I really thought I had either of these.
I'll be spending the weekend in Gville for the 2 day Fest. I'm looking forward to some good bands and some quality hang-out time with friends.
I'm going to try to make it to the School Bus Figure 8 races craziness too though since it got rained out last weekend.

Awww.. Those frogs are soo cute.. i love frogs, we used to have heaps around here but horrible cane toads killed them all!.. The council recently has a program where they would pay you 10c for every toad that you killed and brought to them.. they were introduced illegially to australia and have killled off heaps of animals and wildlife.. so it is getting a bit better and the frogs are slowly coming back! and that is so excellent you are planning to release them to their natural habitats.
I hope you are feeling better!!.. look after yourself sweetie! and have fun at the festival!!
i lurve your new profile pic!.. btw... i am in the process of writing you an to you.. finally.. i am so slack!!
