Ok, update on recent happenings:
Both Zombie shows at the Wiltern were AMAZING. The band sounds so incredible these days. Everyone is on top of their game sonically and visually. They're an entertaining band to hear and watch...and the stage 'show' was simple, but effective. Some stage props: light-up 666, skulls naked chicks (not live dancing girls), american flags, pictures of Charles Manson, pictures of famous monsters, and a big screen projecting clips from various movies, anime, Rob's videos/movies, etc, all edited to go along to the music...and a giant robot came out for I believe "More Human than Human" and a bunch of cyborg, dead things (with red laser eyes) came out for "Superbeast." Here's what was played on both nights:
INTRO: Beginning of the End/Sawdust in the Blood
American Witch
Demon Speeding
Living Dead Girl
Creature of the Wheel
More Human than Human
Never Gonna Stop
Let it All Bleed Out
House of 1,000 Corpses
Super Charger Heaven
Foxy, Foxy
Thunder Kiss '65
1st Encore:
Superbeast
Dragula
2nd Encore:
Lords of Salem
I'm hoping that Rob will put out a concert DVD one of these days... And I read yesterday that John 5 just left his band Loser (which he was the founding member of) so he could be Rob Zombie's guitarist full time...so it looks like he's in it for the 'long haul' which will hopefully mean may more Zombie albums in the future...!
Godhead's evening at the Whisky was, uh, 'interesting'... It was a record announcement party hosted by the band's new recording home: Cement Shoes Records (a division of Universal). The band sounded GREAT...but the audience SUCKED. I did talk to Jason Miller (Godhead's vocalist/guitarist, or as he was referred to by Lexxi Foxx of Metal Skool: The Head Godhead) before the show about life, the universe, and everything...except for the universe and everything part...but yeah, upcoming projects, past projects jobs, the new album, a new song they were going to play that night.
Not a great turnout and not all the right people for the Godhead show. I felt people were either there to shmooze or to just hang out. I've been to plenty of Godhead shows where I get there early so I can secure a spot up front and not leave that spot for another four hours. At this show I didn't go up front right away because of a small 'mosh pit' slam dancing to a hispanic hardcore act...then the floor was rather empty for the next act, Neanderthal, who, ummm, sucked. The next two acts were both fronted by girls who sang about their problems...the first was more alternative, the second was punk (and a bit more whorish)... I'm not knocking girls who are in bands, I'm just stating what I saw. I can't remember the next act's name, but they butchered one of my absolute most favrotie Cradle of Filth songs, "Coffin Fodder"...they started the song by saying, "Uh, we just learned this song"...within the first five notes the guitarist made a mistake, the band couldn't keep in time, the other guitarist didn't know when to sing...it all ended in a complete mess and everybody just gave up. Oh well... There might have been another band after that but all I remember next was Media Lab...either I've seen them before or somehow came into posession of one of their CDs a while back. Great live band, very entertaining, amazing (girl) lead guitarist...just amazing...that chick can fucking shred! Then next, of course, was my reason for going to the show: Godhead. 60% of the set was new material, most of which I've heard before either at previous shows while the new album (The Shadow Line, out 7/18!) was in development or on the band's myspace page. Here's what was played:
Hey You
The Reckoning
Push
The Gift
Fall Down
Far Too Long
Eleanor Rigby
Through the Cracks
Trapped in Your Lies
The Hate in Me
