2007 The Year In Review.
Well here goes nothing, 2007 Is coming to a close this is what it did or at least what I remember. I know that I'm leaving a bunch of stuff out and names were not used to protect the innocent
The year started of with a bang, a fucking blizzard on New Years Eve. What a bummer. I was all ready to party and ended up not doing shit. I stayed home, no one called me, i didn't feel like calling anyone. I ended up falling asleep around 10 or something like that.
January was kind of a crazy month. In December the band found out that Shawn from Slipknot wanted to produce an album with us. So the band came into the new year flying high. We put together an all ages show a knickerbockers so Shawn could come see us play again and to meet with us. The show went great other than the fact that we had to leave right after and didn't get to talk to anyone.
One monday toward the end of the month we get a call saying we had to be in New York City a week from that day. Are you fucking crazy. We go, We have a blast, and make some great connections. That was everyone's first time to NYC, the first time out of the midwest for some of us. New York is a trip, I really like being in a big city. Everything is at you finger tips. There were some many good restaurants, I don't thin I used a fork the entire time i was there. Lots of sushi and lots of pizza, and Korean bbq is the shit, ox tongue is awesome.
We get back to Lincoln on a wednesday, I leave for Cabo two days latter or something like that. My sister is getting married, the whole family and bunch of friends go down for a week. It was a much needed Vaca from everything. I didn't think it was possible to have that much fun with my family. I saw some crazy shit that I never would of thought could happen, this is crazy... this is crazy! It's the first week of February by the way, I'm running around half naked in eighty degree weather while everybody in Nebraska is freezing their balls off. haha! It was my first time out of the country and it was kinda strange being offered drugs everywhere you go. "Weed ... Blow..." every where you went, that's all you heard. I get back to Nebraska and life sucks pretty much for awhile.
Vacation hangover. I was drinking so much that it really had no effect on me anymore. At least i think tell I watch the video I took of the wedding, there is more footage of my feet and Lands end rock then the wedding. oops...
It's still February and cold as shit but that doesn't stop me from hitting the bars on the regular. One night I run into this girl I've had a crush on for awhile, we hang out and talk a bit. Through talking I find out she is no longer with her boyfriend, at that moment its all over for me, Im gonna fuck it up,I always do. And I do. It goes on for about a month of me putting my foot in my mouth, fucking up any chance of a relationship with this girl. I suck at life.
March is pretty much a blur. I'm sure we played a show or two. Lots of drinking, living day to day. April rolls around and Its starting to sound like we are going back to NYC. We leave the day after my birthday which is 4/20, we go to a strip club to celebrate. It's god to get the fuck out of Lincoln for awhile even if it does mean a 24 hour van ride with 13 people and equipment. Another band from Omaha goes with us. Since this is our second time this year we a pretty confident and venture out more. We party pretty hard. It is much warmer this time around so that makes life way easier. In May we do a couple of shows in Omaha and that's about it.
The summer, I don't even now where to begin. This was definitely the summer of parties at the shop. Three of them with in a couple of weeks of each other. I meet someone at one of these parties, little did i know how this girl would change my outlook on life. This summer proved to be a difficult one, full of extreme highs and lows. But I guess that's the way it goes the Higher the high the lower the low. It was a very hot summer but they usually are here. I don't think I got out of Nebraska the whole summer which kinda sucks. Before I know it the days start getting shorter, I'm still drinking a lot and starting to realize it's not helping me any.
As fall rolls around the band signs a recording contract, that was a big high. Achieving one of your life goals is always a good felling. We finally get schedules strait and we go record the album. But first I have a lapse in judgment and get arrested for a dui. shit....
After a week of pre production in Iowa we move into the studio in Omaha. We recorded our album at a studio owned by Mike Mogis and Conor Oburst. Day to day life in the studio is pretty laid back. Waking up around 10 am and going to work around noon'ish. but its not work you hate its work you love. I spent a lot of time in the lounge in the studio watching tv and messing around on the internet. I'm pretty sure there is an imprint on the couch were I sat everyday for three weeks. I really cut back on drinking . Everybody thinks there is something wrong with me. I will still drink a couple beers if the mood strikes me but this everyday shit isn't happening. It seems like something bad happens every time I get drunk. We wrap up in the studio just before thanksgiving.
Coming back to Lincoln was the last thing I wanted to due, we had been doing the band thing full time now for about a month and I was getting used to not having a real job. I guess I didn't matter because I got laid off when I got back. So now I'm not just broke , I have no income. All I want to do is get out on the road and play. But that can't happen till the album is finished. Things are different in Lincoln or at least it feels different. It feels like people are waiting for us to fuck up so they can destroy what we have built, but its bigger then them and bigger then anyone of us and our problems.
This brings us to the present month of December. The weather has turned cold and snow and ice make it hard to get around. there are only a few people left in this town that I care about and I one of them is moving out of this black hole that is the midwest. This place can really suck the life out you. I help her move her stuff around town and then ride with her to L.A., I say ride because I don't have driving privileges. We take four days to reach our final destination, stopping to see her family along the way. We make it to L.A. on a sunday afternoon. I haven't been to the west coast for a very long time, I wish I could have stayed longer. Maybe see the ocean, but I had matters to tend to in Lincoln. I fly back on monday. It's the first time I've ever traveled a long distance by myself. I kinda like going to new places alone. I hope to make it back out there soon, even if it's just to hang out by myself on the beach for a few days.
Back in Lincoln, it's cold and everyone is preparing for christmas. I'm preparing to move out of my apartment and looking for a job. There are only a few days left in 2007 and I got big things planned for 2008 so I can't wait to get started.
