so, sundays are always emotional for me. i guess its the count down of a weekend with friends and good times, then to be alone after all of it. im used to it. sometimes its actually a good thing to wind down. but sometimes i think about the things i miss.
and tonight, i looked at the album from my send off party from minneapolis. i had little poloroids taken of all that came and had them write a little something.
everytime i look at it i cry. i shouldnt subject myself to it, but sometimes i need to read what my friends and family think of me. just so i know my existence on this earth is important to someone.
the note that always gets me the most is from my mom. she is strong in her own way. she didnt want me to leave minnesota, yet was the strongest of them all.
she wrote a gaelic blessing:
"may the road rise to meet you
may the wind be always at your back
may the sun shine warm upon your face
the rain fall soft upon your fields
and until we meet again
may god hold you in the palm of his hand"
she went on to write:
"i send you on your new venture, my love, my concern, and my support. we are to give our children "wings" so off you go. i will miss you so much! make your mark, and i will mark the days until i see you again"
and of course like any mom, she had a list of rules for me:
-be careful
-remember your midwest roots
-call often
-email often
-eat!!!
-dont work all day and all night
-invite your mom and dad to visit
-wear sunscreen!!!
im ok, i like it here. i take everyday as it is and try to get the most out of it. i have fun. i see new things. but sometimes there is a great comfort in family.
i cant wait to see them.

I know to an extent how you feel. During my Texas stiint, after the initial novelty wore off, all I thought about was Minnesota. Every vacation I took was back here. I, too, kept looking at my collection of friends & family photos.
You don't know where life is going to lead you. Maybe, someday, you'll be back.
