What is it that I'm rebelling for?
Where is this revolution that I'm preparing for?
The Beatniks are all dead
And their children are too far gone
Every orifice adorned with metal
Earlobes stretched to the shoulders
And ink taking over the natural hue
Why all of this descension?
What purpose do all of these things serve?
Spiritual amour?!
What have you to arm yourselves for?
The war was fought long ago
It was a draw.
So why all of this to hide behind?
Because that's exactly what it is.
There's no expression but an expression of Fear
No individuality - everyone's doing it!
So is it really rebellion?
Is this really revolutionary?
Why all the excess?
This embelishment and modification?
This is unneccesary beauty
Unwanted attention and unwarranted criticism
So why are you rebelling and what for?
You wear the colors and stripes
Of a revolution that will never come.

This was a little poem I wrote while I was at work during the summer and kind of angry at myself and anyone like me who had piercings and tattoos. Well, mostly I was set off by all the lil' girlies and fashion punks who got piercings and tattoos because it was 'rebelious'. They really piss me off. I just got to thinking why it was that we all do this, what is this rebellion that we are 'preparing' for? Just something to think about. Marinate on that for awhile.
