the last 14+ days spent on tour...
will add the last day in a bit...
i spend the day before the first show in london, walking around town, enjoying the food from my favourite health food store, and find a tattoo shop for the birthday tattoo i treat myself with. that guy does a great job.
later on i find the swingin utters checking into the generators hostel, we have a couple beers at the generators bar later on, watching young americans doing stupid drinking games with a lot of puke on bare breasts. yeeeeeeeeeeha, welcome to europelets party hard
1st day london, brixton academy
what an amazing view stepping onto that stage from the load in areait is huge, high ceilings, a balcony, used to be a theatre. there are still statues posted on both sides of the stage. today everyone is getting ready, strings need to be changed, rented equipment needs to be checked, it is great to see everyone again, still the same crew, except for the great addition of the sweetest merchguy, wilkie!!!
epoxies are running late for their first european show ever, their gear is stuck in customs. almost everyone shows up for interviews, everythings running smoothly for me. and finally they come, get their stuff out of the boxes and jump on stage. epoxies have landed and they rule, what an amazing band, with a wonderful frontwoman moving across the stage like a dancer from the early days of modern dance.
swingin utters are on next and a cheer rises up from the audience. the utters are back over here after 6 years and it is great to see everyone so happy to have them back, a sea of up and down moving heads, clapping hands.
nofx go on and everyones having a blast happy faces singing a long. what a fun show!
i meet a couple friends, but everyones wrapping up soon after the show, and go into town to party there. i crawl into my bunk and wake up somewhere on the way to
birmingham, 2nd day
we have trouble finding our way around that ever changing city which looks like a big shopping mallwhich actually IS a big shopping mall i find out later.
the venue is great, smaller than brixton academy, lower ceilings, more of a club atmosphere. i have plenty of time to check my e-mails and do some office work before the rest of the gang rolls in. looks like theres no sunday closing times for birmingham shopping malls. everythings open
epoxies play a great show, it is so much fun to watch them. and again the utters receive a very warm welcome. sometime during the evening i sit down with my bosses mike and erin for our international meeting held in the hallway in front of the swingin utters dressing room after a fancy dinner of ordered in indian food. so forget about sell out and stuffthis tour again proves that this is more some kind of family. or a mobyou cant leave it and everyones there for and with you.
i am tired, running up and down stairs and around venues is a great fitness test but so different from hanging out at our berlin officeso i crawl into my bunkand wake upat 2am because the speakers from the front lounge seem to be installed in my bunkthe boys are so sweet, apologize for being too loud, which they actually arent at all, and max finds me a bunk further down the bus which is perfectly quiet, so i fall back asleep and wake up in
nottingham, 3rd day
what a cool club! super nice people everywhere, the cutest little cook who looks like santa claus in biker gear, the biggest production office on this tour so far, and i find the vegan fast food place called v1, with soy chunk sandwiches, vegan mayo, icecream, engagement, nofx tattoo, computer problems, vanilla ice,
nottingham 4th day
spike and nottingham castle, selectadisk, v1, pasties, sheep shag and blowjob, franklin learns new words, gas station
by newcastle, travelodge, 5th day of the tour
the swingin utters buss is parked right outside my motel room, plugged into a burger king! we spent all our fist off day of this tour trying to find a hotel that would give us power supply so part of us could get a room, some would be able to party and watch movies on the bus. we saw the wonderful coastline by newcastle, surfers were out there, then went back inland and finally found somethingand a pub nearby. the hotel unplugged us after a couple hours and thenthe greatest busdriver ever, frank, found a plug by a burger king. finally that company is able to serve something good.
pub breakfast, no parking, parking at the arena, chilling on the bus, parking at university, cab to epoxies club, no food after 7pm, fun show, back to the bus, party, phonecall, conversation with s., who is happy to be back home
newcastle 6th day
internet in student union, venue is the cafeteria, bad pub food,
newport 7th day
vegan food, boots, best toothbrush, nice city, shower at the gym, awesome indian food, overzealous kids, couple from greece
manchester 8th and 9th day
take a hotel for the night, wake up with bad allergy eyes, shopping trip to lush and nice conversation with a young mom who wants to escape the city to spain on the market place, summer feeling, photoshoot, party night, leave nasty message on answering machinecant exactly remember what i said
dublin 10th day (off day) and 11th day
ferry ride with rob and wilkie, my two most fave merch guys, dublin is gorgeous, the welcome is not, cant park at the club, have to drive around aimlessly for a while, end up at some hotel out of town, bus and frank stay, we take a cab to the city, find a hotel, walk around the city for hours, greatest italian food, temple bar, by whiskey for frank, souvenirs and have a walk through the park, very relaxing, end up at the hotel watching tv, mtvs show about plastic surgeryouch.
stretching in hotel room, feels so good, need to do more of that on tour, by back is completely f***, cab to the club which looks like the chicken cage in blues brothers, at least the stage does, the rest is a night club styled venue, nice people, but crazy drinkers, the bus is rockin,
kendal 12th day
back to a place ive visited together with my sister about 20 years ago. the cutest little town. bus parking and power supply is arranged after a while. so alls good. i get some indian food, and fall asleep watching tv. no show for me tonight. the bands are sweating in the pub having a fun time playing the smallest stage on this tour.
brighton 13th day
wake up in southern italy, or so it seems, unfortunately theres no parking for the bus so while waiting around the clouds come in and the worst rainfall ever floods the streets right before doors for the show openoh well. thats southern england after allthe club looks like a mislead ufo security everywhere, except for to block backstage, nasty, aggro atmosphere, happy to get out of there.
