Was up last night past midnight, so you can imagine how much fun it was waking up at quarter to six this morning. I'm a zombie today. I'm walking into walls, shambling with a lurch in my step, calling out for "BRAAAAAAAAAIINS!" every so often. I'm a mess.
We did get our paycheques today, and much to all of our astonishment, we were all shorted between fifty and one hundred dollars. Why, pray tell? Well turns out that the company that took us over pays Alberta Health Care and our Insurance only once a month. Not, as was previously done, on each cheque.
Therefore, every month, just before everyone in here needs to pay their rent or mortgage, we get less money than expected. This is common practice, and would be fine it there was any warning whatsoever.
I feel like punching the accountant in the back of the head; "so, ya like surprises?!"
Oh, well, fucked by "The Man" again. Don't even get dinner and a movie out of it.
At least it's the weekend, at least there's "better" weather on the way. Neither Amanda or me is feeling inclined to go downtown anymore this weekend than we did last weekend, so we'll probably be drinking at our local pub thang.
Sort of sucks in a way since we're about 30 km from any of our friends places, and equally so from any of the bars we used to go to.
At the same time, I'm so tired of the bar scene in town, I moved 30 km to keep me from being tempted to sit in one all night complaining how dirty the floors are, how lousy the music is and how my G'n'T is watered down piss.
One cavet: a few months ago, we heard from a friend that an old buddy opened up a club. I hear it's starting to get really jumpin'. We went there a couple of times and it was just dead. Never saw him in there either. It looked pretty bad for him for a while there. I'm glad to hear it's really pickin' up and doin' well, since it's probably the only place in town that plays any music I'd wanna hear.
Shame about the 30 km drive though.
