Upon researching the subject of Friday the thirteenth superstitions, I found that there was so much more to it than just the number. I found a whole set of superstitions for each day of the week. It's so strange to read all the things that people believed for each day. what I found is that we should actually be more worried about Monday. No, this didn't just turn into a Garfield comic strip, it seems the hate for Mondays has some history to it. French tradition claims that a couple who marries on a Monday will go insane. In Ireland they say Monday is a bad day to dig a grave. These sound silly now, but back then they were real beliefs. Friday is said to be connected to Venus, and widely held to be unlucky and a day when evil influences are at work. It even goes as far to say that the day Eve offered Adam the apple(in the bible) was a Friday. Furthermore, in the days of public executions, hangings were performed on Fridays. An old proverb explains that anyone who laughs on a Friday, will cry on Sunday. According to one old Shropshire superstition, news received on a Friday makes a physical impression upon the hearer in the form of a new wrinkle for every tiding. Children born on a Friday could prove to be unlucky, but will enjoy the gift of second sight and healing powers. The prejudice against the number thirteen is of obscure origins, as evidence of it exists in Roman civilization long before the Last Supper and the bible, which is none the less usually cited as the source. There's many people who still have a major fear of the number thirteen, (technical name is "triskaidekaphobics') and would go to considerable lengths to avoid any association with the number. As a result there are many streets throughout the Western world which have no house with this number, and many hotels which lack a room thirteen and even a thirteenth floor, going directly from twelve to fourteen. I still have never found a staircase that has a step past twelve. I have also seen for myself the missing thirteenth floor inside buildings around Houston where I'm from. I don't feel like thirteen will damn my whole day/week/year. The human brain is powerful beyond our knowledge, our thoughts alone influence our whole life experience, if we think negative, bad things come our way. It's the same thing with superstitions, people believe certain things are unlucky or lucky and THAT gives it power. In a way, it becomes true and therefore we have manifested our fears. Personally I don't mind Friday the thirteenth, you even get cool tattoos for cheap, most shops have specials specific to that day. In closing, don't fret over numbers and days, it only has as much power as you decide to give it. Go get yourself a black cat and let it walk anywhere he/she wants, it won't do anything but cat things.

And then there's people who will like something primarily to move the counter from thirteen to fourteen.

That's a cool post and interesting info. Superstitions and the human mind are fascinating, and I'm not just saying that because I was born on a Friday the 13th!
