Today I took my dog, Ziggy, in to the Vet. to have eye surgery. He's had Glaucoma and Uveitis for a litte over a year now which I've been fighting with all kinds of medication to try to keep his sight as long as possible, but eventually he did go completely blind.
Since he's been on so much medication which is not healthy for him, and now that he's gone completely blind the doctor said it's time for the surgery -- something I've been avoiding.
There are two kinds, a surgery that will give him prosthetic eyes so that he will look normal and be able to open and close his eyes normally (but still can't see...not that advanced yet) which is the surgery I opted for since my dog is so expressive with his eyes even though he can't see. The other is complete removal of the eyes and then they sew the eyelids shut.
The Vet Tech told me that when I pick him up he'll look really beat up And that they will try to do the prosthetic surgery, but that if something happens, or the corneas are not healthy enough, then they'll have to do complete removal.
Either way, this morning was the last time I'll see my dogs real eyes and I don't know what I'll end up with after the surgery. Needless to say, I'm extremely nervous and upset, but hope that after he heals from this, that he won't be in pain anymore from the glaucoma and he won't have to be on the crazy meds he's been on for over a year now. Hopefully we'll both feel better after this is all over and done with.
But I'm sure freaked out right now!

[many hugs] I know how hard a wait on a pet can be... I look forward to hearing about him.
