In order to recover from the bad news of the magazine closing down, i indulged in a cool weekend. On Sunday morning we went to visit Monza's Rose Garden (one of the biggest in Europe!), and in the afternoon to a Wrestling show!
The Rose Garden is really neat, it hosts some 10,000 rose flowers and it is house of some of the world contests. There was a free guide showing us around the garden, so I learnt some interesting facts, like:
- a rose is a FRUIT. ok, call me dumb but i didn't know that. the actual rose is the small thingie you find inside the rose leaves. the rest is just some nice flower outside, but at the core, a rose is in the same botanical category as an apple.
- the world of rose competitions is extra-harsh and tough!!! this is how a rose gets judged: first of all, it takes three years! every contestant plants five of his rose plant seeds in an area of the rose garden, and then the plant is left to itself for 3 years. no watering, no trimming, no peat to make it grow faster. after three years, the best-looking,smelling,etc one, is judged and wins. if any one of the five seeds dies, the whole lot is not even taken into consideration. thisis real survival of the fittest! i wonder what kind of backstabbing goes on in this world. it really takes nothing to go and pour some venom on a flower,i think... ooooh, the conspiracies!
here's a couple of pics of the garden.
and the best flower of them all!
After such an interesting (and a bit gay) morning, i decided to go and see ICW (italian championship wrestling) in the afternoon. hey, who said this is an even gay-er activity? LOL. it is not! it's sport!
they had a show just a few miles from here, so at the last moment i decided to attend.
the first surprise was that it was an open-air show! so i even got tanned! wow! the matches were all good and even, the main event also included a special guest star: "The Anarchist" Doug Williams from England. Then guy is three times as big as our guys, LOL! The inter-regional title even switched hands, after a rather technical and spectacular match between mr.excellent (who won) and manuel majoli.
Here's the main event (williams is the one showing hisback to the camera, how rude!)
Williams getting beaten up outside the ring by Red Devil, the high-flyer of the federation
