Aaaallright, I had a nice weekend off, I went back on the ambulance on the night between Monday and Tuesday, and I slept between 11.30pm and 6.45am cause there were NO CALLS! Wooo!!! My luck protected the city once again, no one needed to call an ambulance yesterday. Cool.
So, well, a bit about the short, deserved break. The whole trip was in jeopardy cause all designed campers started having problems: health, family issues, work issues, etc. So we had to rearrange things a bit, and in the end we went out for two and a half days, choosing a place much closer to home than we originally thought. So we headed for "Lago Maggiore" (which translates as "bigger lake", which sounds very odd come to think of it), just 80 kilometres away from here. I travelled all around europe with my camper, yet i was still missing these spots so close. Well, this lake is very beautiful, with three small islands in the middle of it, and the islands had been chosen by kings, between 1600 and 1900, as summer houses, and things like that. You can visit them now and it makes for a very interesting trip, even if the entrance tickets are a bit expensive. I guess culture IS expensive. Now i'll let the pics speak for themselves, but just have a look at the poor weather we got in the first pics (which refers to Easter day), and then the last pic... on Monday the sun showed up, just as we were about to come back home! Sigh! But it was fun. And may be worth of another trip. Now, hope you enjoy the pics!
spooky tree and spooky weather, when we got up on sunday morning
L'isola dei pescatori seen from the isola Bella
An "artistic shot" of the isola dei pescatori, shot from beneath the basement of those triangular sculptures you can see in he pic above
The royal gardens of the Isola Bella. It's a ten-floor garden bonanza!
The Borromeos, owners of this small island since something like 1600, were so rich that they didn't just build that ten.floor garden, but they also decorated the rooms by the lakeside as if they were actual caves under the dea. They had some poor bloke/slave attach one-by-one small stones and seashells on the walls and ceiling to recreate the effect! Well, it looks cool at least
Rocca di Angera: a small fortress on the other side of the lake. Very good sight... but the sky was still very grey!
Oh no! That dastardly Sadako from The Ring movie reached us even on top of the fortress! No place is safe!
This is what we saw as soon outside the camper window as we woke up on Monday morning. Sun. Please also notice how close to the lake we were parking. Eheheh!
The Isola Bella looks totally different with sun shining! Damn!
This is the Rocca di Angera as seen from the other side of the lake. And some for you.
Well, hope you enjoyed the trip. We did.
ciao!

I must admit that I'm a bit afraid to see Gael Garcia Bernal in an English language film. I saw him in Don't Tempt Me (Sin noticias de Dios ) and he didn't pull off acting in English particularly well. I'm afraid he'll be like Penelope Cruz, who is a wonderful actress in Spanish but just can't seem to make good English films. But that's just my opinion.
So, were you actually born in Milan? My ancestry is Italian, so I have a bit of soft spot for anything Italian. I took Italian in college for a year and used to have a blast getting totatlly drunk and spekaing Italian to people (for some reason there just happened to be a person who spoke Italian at every party I went to!) When I was in Italy, I visited my relatives in the Dolomiti (they live in this teeny town called Castel Fondo) and it was totally strange because every gravestone in the cemetery had my last name on it! Weird....
I'm dying for some nocciola gelato right now!
~Ciao!
