hitting salzburg in austria for some new year partying. i deserve a break!
i guess it's time for a usual good, bad, ugly of 2006.
i'll start off with the ugly cause i don't want to end this last 2006 post with a downer...
THE UGLY
- Coming back from Barcelona on January 2 2006, and an hour later taking my father to the hospital for a check because he was feeling tired... and being told he has a terminal cancer. Which was even worse than anyone expected - February 11 he left us. That was so unexpected. He is resting in peace now, and that's what matters.
THE BAD
- Inheriting my father's watch shop - and the huge debt coming with it. I had to quit a few side-track jobs, ambulance duty, could not finish off my studies - i had to "grow up" all off a sudden, cutting on all the generation-x crap. (i put this in the "bad" because of the debt and how hard i'm working to make things even, but all in all, this is a good thing in general)
- my magazine risked to close down for good, due to soem major problems that the editor ran into. MAJOR problems. now it seems to be back, but i was way scared between mid september and early december, when no issue came out.
- the first hours of 2006 were not spent partying in some lively spanish club as i was wishing, but thanks to an idiotic friend, we missed the bus to barcelona and were left in castelldefels to party with the geriatric division of our campsite. i got drunk and all, and everyone who read my report of this thought that it was funny, but really, it was NOT! see a pic as an example...
mmm... that's it. can't think of other major bad stuff. which is good!
THE GOOD
- going to sziget festival 2006. it's always the best week of the year. 300 gigs, 7 days, 1 island, beer at 1.20 euro, random friendships.
- getting my canon eos350d camera, and learning that i can take a few decent pics with it (see my previous journal for more proof!). my magazine put my pics on the cover once, and published a ton of live reports with pics taken by me. i take pride in that.
- interviewing slayer and iron maiden, two of the big bands that were missing off my checklist (now i'm just left with rammstein and metallica, and i'm positive i can do metallica in 2007). iron maiden flew me over to london for a pre-listen and a personal interview with steve harris. i still can't believe that it happened.
- inheriting the shop and learning that i am NOT a slacker. i am fighting tooth and nail to make ends meet, but i am making it, i am almost on par with the debts!
- doing my first two suicideboys sets: "tick-tock, goes the c(L)ock" and "in 3-D"
- becoming the owner of the SG Italy group, and managing to organize the first-ever national meeting, and then actually going to a lot of sg-related parties, meeting a lot of people, some of whom i'd even dare call friends!
*****
ALL IN ALL: the year started off in a very bad way, the worst possible i'd say. then it got a bit more beareable, it was a definitely not an easy year for me, but i've grown a real lot, both in my personality, in my skills as a salesman as a photographer, and in my misanhtropy!
C'mon 2007... i'm waiting for you and i'm ready to bite you and live you to the fullest!
Have a happy new year everyone!
CIAO!!!
