Quick note, for the record:
The D90 is, officially an inferior camera to the D300 on two specific metrics:
1)Durability- My D300 went a full year without so much as a scratch (short of a pre-existent electronic defect.0 The D90 was mine for, oh, 30 hours before I lost the lenscap (I'm counting it as damage; wanna fight about it?)
..I kid. Seriously, it's plastic vs. magnesium alloy as far as body construction goes, but if you use your neck strap (as a neck strap, not as a tether for swinging it about,) you should be fine.
2) Noise reduction-- It's not just me having the setting off. The D300 had to be pushed to ISO1600 before the noise got bad. D90's noise is noticeable (though not TOO too bad) at 800. This is party the fault of an inadequate flash, but still...
Other than that, and the difference in card types, and the video capability (both of which the D300s has rendered moot,) I would tell anyone to save the $600-800 and get the D90. It is making me indescribably happy to have a camera back in my hand; I am even happier that it's less of a compromise than I thought it would be.
