So as many of you know, I live in a not-so-nice part of town....aka West Market Street.
While I've had many "interesting" things/people to deal with since I've moved in there, I believe last night was the last straw.
I was coming home about 12:30am and I parked my car and gathered my things to get out. I notice a cab pulling up in front of the apt and a guy paying his fair. I realize that I hadn't checked my mail today, so I head to the front of the house where the mailboxes are located.
Usually I would skip getting the mail at such a late hour, but I've been on a a CD buying rampage lately and I've been getting presents in the mail daily. I was antsy.
I get the mail out and I hear footsteps coming toward me. I smoosh the mail into my arms and quickly unlock the door. (Thank god for living in a 'secured' building). I get in the door and turn around to shut it and the man is literally two feet behind me. I slam the door in his face as he shouts, "What's wrong pretty lady? Damn!". I run upstairs and lock all my locks behind me.
The people in my building are pretty aware of who lives here and who doesn't...as well as not opening the door for anyone in the evenings given past events...so it was safe to say homie didn't live there and I just about got shanked. Thankfully no one else let him into the building. Don't confuse building with a spatious cookie cutter college apt...it's really house shaped and used to be an old hotel...only 7 apts in it total...it would be easy to find me. Call me paranoid, but I was terrified. not my first enoucounter with strange folk, but definately the scariest and hopefully the last.
If anyone knows of any place in Normal, not in the ghetto, and relatively cheap that I can move into in May, let me know. I'm willing to live with people if necessary, but I don't want to!
Love to all. Stay away from strangers.
