Since you always seem to know the answers, I asking you...

Do you know if the government has any free French programs that I could sign up for? I want to improve my French speaking/writing skills.

Everything is fucking imploding.

Sys Admin is one of these jobs when if the shit hits the fan in just the right way, you are well and truly fucked.

Looks like one of my core server has been corrupting itself ever so slightly in the SCSI layer. I noticed because my backups were failing for reasons that could not be explained.

I have bad feeling...

Why does the most important server we have always fail on Mondays? The same one that takes up to 8 hours to bring back from the deads. And why did it fail at 7 tonight?

I've been tagged by this exponential "write 20 things about yourself and tag 5 other people".

Last time I checked, there was around 40000 accounts with profiles on SG. A portion of whom have a journal and can therefore be tagged. Supposing the half-life of the meme is 12 hours, it would take between 6 and 7 generations for the meme to hit all journals....

I haven't read a new sci-fi novel in at least 2 weeks, maybe even 3. Actually, the last book I read was The Mythical Man-Month. Brooks is good, it's easy to read and interesting. It's still "work." The whole reason why I try to read fiction is to get away from work.

Speaking of which. When I was in high-school, I would spend hours on...

I read Mythical Man-Month last year. I agree, it was a surpisingly good read for something work related.

I also feel the same way about computers, and was thinking about that a few weeks ago. I'm supposed to be putting together a new web site around my training work on the side. Something that I would have just sat and done a few years ago. Now I've barely put up a skeliton. And I find I'm even reading blogs at work. Just totally unispired. WTF frown

I was thinking it was maybe the kids and lack of sleep or just creeping old age. Maybe it's more. What the hell to do about it though?

Sane people are usually boring, yes. But at the same time, some form of sanity is occasionally nice. Like... be crazy, but know when to be serious, I guess.

I got a 200$ The Bay [1] gift certificate last friday at work as a sort of "Thank You" gift because the last month was a LOT of work with a tight deadline and we (mostly) pulled it off without a hitch.

Now, I never go to The Bay. The only things I buy there are underwears and the occasionnal cooking wear. So given that,...

Yeah, Shal was suggesting silly names and one of them was King or something like that, and then at the same time a few seconds later we both said "Leroy." She made the mental leap from King to Leroy, but not knowing French, there was no such connection for me. It just popped into my head. Shal's convinced I was sharing her brain again.
