Everything is fucking imploding.

Sys Admin is one of these jobs when if the shit hits the fan in just the right way, you are well and truly fucked.

Looks like one of my core server has been corrupting itself ever so slightly in the SCSI layer. I noticed because my backups were failing for reasons that could not be explained.

I have bad feeling...

Why does the most important server we have always fail on Mondays? The same one that takes up to 8 hours to bring back from the deads. And why did it fail at 7 tonight?

I've been tagged by this exponential "write 20 things about yourself and tag 5 other people".

Last time I checked, there was around 40000 accounts with profiles on SG. A portion of whom have a journal and can therefore be tagged. Supposing the half-life of the meme is 12 hours, it would take between 6 and 7 generations for the meme to hit all journals....

I haven't read a new sci-fi novel in at least 2 weeks, maybe even 3. Actually, the last book I read was The Mythical Man-Month. Brooks is good, it's easy to read and interesting. It's still "work." The whole reason why I try to read fiction is to get away from work.

Speaking of which. When I was in high-school, I would spend hours on...

I read Mythical Man-Month last year. I agree, it was a surpisingly good read for something work related.

I also feel the same way about computers, and was thinking about that a few weeks ago. I'm supposed to be putting together a new web site around my training work on the side. Something that I would have just sat and done a few years ago. Now I've barely put up a skeliton. And I find I'm even reading blogs at work. Just totally unispired. WTF frown

I was thinking it was maybe the kids and lack of sleep or just creeping old age. Maybe it's more. What the hell to do about it though?

Sane people are usually boring, yes. But at the same time, some form of sanity is occasionally nice. Like... be crazy, but know when to be serious, I guess.

I got a 200$ The Bay [1] gift certificate last friday at work as a sort of "Thank You" gift because the last month was a LOT of work with a tight deadline and we (mostly) pulled it off without a hitch.

Now, I never go to The Bay. The only things I buy there are underwears and the occasionnal cooking wear. So given that,...

Racket of funding based on publications? What? You mean like those free mags that are 99% ads, 1% shit writing?

Yeah, Shal was suggesting silly names and one of them was King or something like that, and then at the same time a few seconds later we both said "Leroy." She made the mental leap from King to Leroy, but not knowing French, there was no such connection for me. It just popped into my head. Shal's convinced I was sharing her brain again.

I'm pissed off a bit. Not sure why.

My week-end plans (camping and hiking) are shot due to waiting until the last minute to book.

I'm fattening up and sedentarizing too much.

I need a vacation, a real one, at least two if not three weeks.

I'm broke. I keep pretending to myself my job pays better then it does and that my rent is...

It doesn't have to be rocket science to end up taking far more time than I have for one course. I wish I could take a lighter course load and focus on them more, but the way the school makes you do it means that it doens't take a whole lot to end up being difficult :/

I've been kind of mopey lately too. Mayve it's some kind of season thing :/

Hmm, I didnt see any way to open the pipes.. and I admit that nothing, NOTHING, would make me hunt through an extremely clogged with mystery stuff, stinking drain. *shudder*

I called my landlord and he sent someone to fix it. They ended up replacing the pipes, they were so old and clogged. ^_^

The MAC HDD is misbehaving, I think my disk will die pretty soon. It went in a clicking fit at 4pm today and refused to boot.

At least my home dir is back for now, backup time ;-).

Time for a new update.

Tonight is starguitar's last in Montreal as he's moving down south in a hurry. Beer at Roy Bar, 9pm.

My work has finished moving to a different floor in our building, great relief.

I need to build the firewall/gateway for this conference today.

I think I'll go cycling. I haven't been in absolutely way too long, it's ridiculous, I'll probably...

I call them the "miscellaneous lane" because people use the for stopping to talk on their cellphones, run in to get a coffee, talk to their friends on the street and picking their girlfriend up from yoga. There is without fail at least one asshole stopped in the bike lane on every block, and a DPT asshole ignoring the double parker yet ticketing some poor bastard who did the right thing and parked in a loading zone instead of blocking the bikes.
