Literotica
Hey, its Sunday again. I like Sundays, meeting your parents once a week can be quite fun. But as long as its once a week, and you dont have to live with them in over crowded conditions. Its wasnt that bad, but oh well, its urban living.
Richard and I went to a edit and comment session of the book The Best of Singapores Erotica last night. It was quite interesting to read how bad some of those stories are, and it was good for me, because Im contributing to the book (I know, its trashy sounding, and it isnt high brow literature, but its a start). I know what they want now pretty much. Not that I lacked any talent previously when it came to writing about people dying to fuck and people fucking. I think its fairly easy, but apparently a lot of people broke a number of rules while writing their stories (only the good ones will get into the book eventually that was what the session last night was about, trashing the unsalvageable stuff).
The funny thing about all of those stories is that none of them ever described how the people making love smelled to each other. To me, thats really strange. Its one of the things that I notice the most, and the one character with the boldest communication when it comes to sex. Does he smell like Calvin Kleins Obsession, The sea, Sweat, the sort of powder old people use. That kinda thing, it makes all the difference.
Well, Im off to re-write the second draft of my story. I cant say I really liked the first one. But now Im more aware of what needs to be done. The editor did tell me it would be nice to have some mention of sex or some form of sexual activity in the first 500 words. Funny that, but its the truth of marketing books for people that want to buy a bit of written sex. I remember flipping through the first few pages of a novel looking for any mention of some form of sexual activity back when I was still in that decadent book phrase and reading hardcore like Gorges Bataille. Quite strange how you grow out of these things. I still like passionate nonsense in the novels I read as long as it fits with the rest of it- but its no longer something I explicitly look out for.
Im going to film little Tori alright, shes not so little, but shes still littler than me, which is really saying something- and another girlfriend pretending to be quarrelsome lesbians at the coffee shop near my parents place later for a school thing. It might be quite funny, the two of them have been working on their act for awhile now, and theyre pretty good improv-s.
On another note, apparently (lordy knows Im so blur about the world about me) Orion books have released Hung at Dawn, late last year apparently, but Ive only heard about it now. Apparently there was a little disagreement within the editing team when it came to the titled (because it should be Hanged and not Hung as in hung like a horse), but what the hell. Didnt I read from somewhere that men actually do get erections when theyre strangulated. Not the point.
Its a book about possible miscarriages of justice and the death penalty. Its one of the top sellers at MPH, I browsed through it and thought it was an interesting insight into that little bit of Singapores judiciary, prison treatment for the condemned, the fairness of the appeal for an individuals life. I mean, things have really changed, havent they. You can take a look at the review HERE
