So what has happened in the past week? well so I am trying to start working out where I work during my lunch breaks, and Thursday I take a jog in to on of the nearby parks in Emeryville. I don't know what it's called, but it's by this man made lake...I jogged until I got to this playground and looking behind me I decided I didn't wan to come back the way I came so I look to my right and see the train tracks, I assume the train tracks that go by my work so I run across them in the hopes that I can follow them back to work.
On the way back though, I hit a dead end, so I go up further away from the tracks only to find another dead end, this time a hospital, so I run further still and took a street I assumed went parallel to the tracks...only to hit another dead end a block later. I take a right at the nearest street, and guess what? dead end. I'm forty five minutes into this leisurely jog when I realize I'm lost. I should call work but I had left my phone in the locker.
All there is left for me to do is run in the direction I've been going until I see a street I recognize, but it dons on me that I don't recognize anything and each time I seem to hit another dead end that takes me farther away.
Finally in the distance I see the colors of the shuttles I take to work from the Bart station parked up ahead, so i start sprinting towards it. I look left, I look right, to the right...no dead end, so I run down a bit...to my relief, it's the street right next to my work. An hour and a half later I've made it back to work.
Two things I am grateful for, travel shower soap and workplaces with showers.
Things I learned (and which I realize is just plain common sense): never jog in an area you are unfamiliar with, whenever possible, back track no matter how inconvenient it may seem.
Always let at least one person know where you are headed, and always carry a cellphone....
Always stretch after a good warm up....and I mean always...
If you are the adventurous type, invest in some sort of portable compass or gps...
And this is the one thing I wish I knew before I went on my little adventure...if you workplace is in a large building, find out if they have a gym on site.
This little bit of information alone could save you a lot of grief...
