So tomorrow (Friday) I need to sing my school fight song. For work. It's a tradition in my job that we sing our college fight song the frist day after certing (becoming certified). Those of you who went to small schools know that school spirit is somewhat lacking. Most of my friends could probably sing the Michigan or Ohio State or Illinois fight song before my school's fight song. I'm the same way with Bear Down (Arizona's) or Maroon & Gold (Arizona State's). Hence, I've been practicing my school's song. I get three quarters of the way through it (to "Our cheers like thunder roar/see our school, see our team, see our colors gleam") and then I just start laughing and can't finish it.
Why oh why didn't I go to a school with a fight song I could respect???? I loved my school, and although going to a smaller school comes with its own set of challenges (peole never having heard of it, thinking we are a basketball powerhouse despite making the NCAAs only twice in the past five years, and the Sweet Sixteen was nearly a decade ago, etc.), I wouldn't change it. Sure I wish I could live twenty different lifetimes so I could experience twenty different schools, but I am satisfied with my choice. Still though, my school's fight song and alma mater sucks!
