Why is it that the worst in life always seems to happen to the best of us?
Almost two years ago, I was in New Jersey (a great place by the way) for about eight weeks on buisiness, and when I returned home, I was informed of the death of a good friend of mine. He was only twenty years old. We didn't even get to inebriate ourselves together in a bar, toasting his twenty-first birthday, before he passed on from heart failure caused by a blood clot. Jason Berg had a lot going for him. He was a very intelligent and hard working man with a lot of charisma, charm with the ladies, BMX talent, and scholastic aptitude. A good man and a good friend. His passing still stirs in the back of my mind pressing me to not put-off the things that really matter.
Another tragedy recently culminated in the untimely death of a dear family friend. Shiela Kline is one of the sweetest souls one could ever hope to find. An absolute angel in every aspect of her life. As a star in the electrical industry with Southern California Edison, she made a great deal of friends as well as an invaluable headlining asset to the company until she retired. As a middle school teacher, she cared for the well being of each and every student as if they were her own child (the mark of a great mentor), and was dearly missed when she retired yet again. But with her restlessness in retirement, she soon found herself working with her husband Jim and her daughter Kelly (another sweetheart) for Arizona Pipeline donning hardhats and driving forklifts as well as pushing paper, until cancer reared its ugly head just a few months ago. After complaining of severe abdominal pain, doctors discovered aggressive cancers in her pancreas, liver, and lung, that was soon declared terminal. Thankfully the pain and dimentia (caused by her pain medications) is at an end. Unfortunately it is at an end only with her passing on Saturday, 19 February, 2005 . She will be deeply missed by all souls that her light fell upon.
Why couldn't this happen to Slobidan Milosevic or Saddam Hussein, jerks that deserve it, for their crimes against their countrymen, instead of good people? I'm sure we all have these kinds of thoughts regarding close friends and the troubles they encounter.
This weeks music: "Siente Mi Amor" by Selma Heyek, from the motion picture soundtrack "Once Upon A Time In Mexico"
This weeks beverage(s): lovingly refferd to as "Pink Lady Wine", Beringer White Zinfandel (Shiela's favorite), and the 2003 "Casillero del Diablo", a Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile.
Thank you for your kindness, warmth, and friendship, you will be forever missed, Miss Shiela.
