I'm really lazy, aren't I? I got off to a good start with healthy daily updates, and now I'm reduced to updates every few days. Damn work taking way 95% of any possible excitement that I can have during the week. It seems that I do more work at home than actually at work these days...
Oh well.
Wednesday - yet more problems at work. Before I'd even got in, the Financial Controller had gone home due to an "emergency at home" - later that day, his wife called and told us he'd had to go to hospital. We don't yet know what is wrong with him, so its a bit of a concern. So, its quite stretched now and I really do think they should pay me more now!!!
It also didn't help that our accounting system was down for half of Wednesday...and its our month end. So, it was four hours of nothing much at all. The odd bit of paperwork....zzzzzzz.
More of the same on Thursday and Friday, but I finished the week at 2.30pm where I wanted to be, but with a bag full of work and several files emailed home to continue here. Which I didn't want.
But, I still had plans for Friday, and that was a trip up to Nottingham to see Oneida. So, this is the story of Friday:
Got home at 3.30pm - cracked open a beer and had a quick shower. Finished beer after shower, and decided to use some gel dye and tinted my hair red (btw, I hacked it short last week!!), burnt a CD for a friend whose birthday it was, and walked into town to meet a another friend from work.
Got on the train, cracked open another beer, got into Nottingham then went back to his place and dropped my stuff off. Bought more beer as it was a bring your own beer gig! Walked back into the city, and met up with the birthday boy and ordered pizza (proper thin base Italian style! Ace!). Ate that, couple more friends turned up and we got a taxi to the venue.
By this point, we were well on our way to being very drunk. We arrived at the venue (an old school hall), and opened another beer. I noticed that a friend of mine was djing, so caught up with him briefly. More drinks, then the first band came on. They basically played nintendo tunes around the lead singer playing his gameboy!!! It was fun, but limited.
The next band didn't show up, but five musicians got together two hours before the gig and just played one long track made up on the spot. Was pretty good considering the circumstances, though if they'd been together for a while, you'd have thought it could have gone so much further.
And then it was onto Oneida, who were quite simply, awesome. They started with a 15 minute proggy, psychedelic instrumental that was really tight musically. They played off each other and created an amazing noise for a three piece. They they went through the rest of their psychedelic rock and roll set with great energy, and only a "sound curfew" of 11.30pm set by local residents stopped them from going on later...which is what they wanted to do. Still, awesome though.
After that, the three of us that were left walked back into the city and went to a late bar. I stopped drinking (wisely, as I was hammered), but I was the calming and homing instict that got us all home safely and cheaply (I was nearly dragged into a taxi that had quoted us three times as much as it should have been but managed to persuade them not to go) and we crashed it the living room watching a NIrvana video.
Saturday was spent shopping in Nottingham - though I only made a mental list and didn't buy anything! I was shattered by the time I got home and had to pass on going to the Casino as had been the plan, and today has been spent doing work work...and its been really damn boring!!!!
Still, I visit my sister for her birthday next weekend and will be seeing Sin City and doing some filiming!!!
