What a strange weekend it has been...
But, despite the drunken rant yesterday it has actually been a good one. The rant was born out of finding things out on Friday night that I'd not previously known, but it was done with people I know and now know better - which is good. Basically, it started around a friend's apartment and moved onto a restaurant and finally onto a gig venue - it was only at the gig venue where everything started coming out...
...oh yeah, did I mention that copious amounts of alcohol were consumed and that a couple of bottles of Southern Comfort were "acquired" from a horrible bunch of lads that called themselves a band (Ego Armalade - terrible name, terrible band, nasty spiteful "lads" band - one of them tried to hit my friend's wife because she asked him to stop smoking in the venue).
So yeah, we'd acquired the Southern Comfort and the 6 of us go through them in no time at all - and naturally tongues were starting to get a little bit loose. Then, everything came out....and I was shocked. She's said some nasty things about people that you just can't fault in any way at all - people that wouldn't hurt a fly. So, loose tongue, anger rising and those people around.....well, yeah, I told them what she'd said.
Cue everyone leaving the room when she starts "singing".....and returning once she finished. I think she began to understand then that something was up....
And then it was onto a late bar where we continued our drunken catharsis...and it ended as quite a laugh really.
And onto Saturday night....I totally neglected to eat because, well, because I just felt "Bleugh!!! Food! Noooooooo!!!!" - so I sat around and headed on down to the bar where I DJ around 6.30pm....and then it all started going rather odd. We were helping put two bands on - that swelled to three, and then, unbelievably to four!! The sound engineer was livid, I was rather pissed off - as were the venue as they were bailing out another venue that had double booked so had nothing to do with the booking.
Thankfully, the sound guy is pretty stern and said o the two unvited bands that they could play for no more than 20 minutes - one were fine with this the other one were a bit pissed off and tried to play one more song before the sound was cut on them and they went off in a bit of a storm.
Then the bands we knew about - Post War Years were excellent and only play short sets anyway. Kind of like the Cold War Kids crossed with We Ragazzi. And after them came The Kazoo Funk Orchestra - a 9 piece band (well, tonight they were - I think they sometimes have more) from Scotland, with members from France and Canada too.
One word - mad. Another word - brilliant. I love seeing bands have fun on stage and they certainly had fun. Hoping to get them back again later in the year because more people need to see them and sadly the venue clash meant a lot of the people that would normally have come to the gig had gone to the other one. Shame, but at least I had fun!!!
So, after that it was our night - set up and soundchecked in five minutes and the sound guy went home (only an hour late)....all was fine, until we tried to play records....NO FEED!!!!! Argh!!!! Try as we might and with everything hooked up, something was wrong and we couldn't get either deck to produce a sound. It probably didn't help that by this point I'd already had 7 or 8 Pear ciders and that the other two aren't the best when it comes to sorting out sound. So, we had a vinyl free night and everything was on CDs.
Still, good night - not as packed as the last two but the weather was truly awful and that put a lot of people off....as did Sam, so we were about 40 people short because of her big mouth. Still, I'm winding this night down with her and doing something with Zack, the other DJ, and my friend Jon - pretty much got a night sorted out at the same venue for September onwards.
I could just hijack the night we have and ditch Sam - after all, her financial contribution to the night was to buy a notepad and ringbinder whereas mine and Zack's have been in the region of 500.
And that was the story of Friday and Saturday night with my comedy dancing to "Touch Me I'm Sick" edited out, and the fact that I ended up with black tape round my wrists and some girl's hair taped underneath it. On yeah, and the bit where my ex left with a mate of mine that tried to get off with my ex before my ex when I had just started seeing her and is the friend of her ex......yeah, complex and totally incestuous.
Oh, and the part where a girl asked me if I worked at De Montfort University and said she'd seen me around the building I work in when she comes over....I hope my eyes didn't light up to much when I was speaking to her because she is quite literally stunning. I know, I know....there's an unwritten rule of not dating someone you work with, but she's in another department so that rule goes out the window! Watch this space, though knowing me I'll bottle it anyway!!!!
And if anyone is still readin, you rock!
