I've decided that househunting is as bad as dating - actually maybe worse, now that I think about it.
You've got that whole, do I like it/him/her thing going on, and a form of the does s/he like me thing - in that you still wait on pins and needles for the response that may or may not be coming and may or may not be positive. If all goes well, you could get a life commitment out of it, if not, it could be an unholy mess. Yes, indeed, just as bad as dating.
We've found a place that would be damn near perfect for us. It's almost 1200 sq ft, 3bed, 1bath, wood floors in the bedrooms, nice wood paneling in the living areas, sun room, over 1/3 acre, oversized heated 2car garage for iron, just so many things that work for us. Yes, it needs a lot of work, but it's work that we (well, my dad) can and is apparently willing to do, because I'm the luckiest girl around when it comes to parents. The rub? It's foreclosed. Which should make it easier - you just offer the bank what they're asking and the place is yours, no negotiating with grandma who just really wants to make sure you're gonna keep the paneling or whatever. Well, we did this - offer the bank full price that is - and the fuckers are all out of the office. There are two contacts here in CO - both of them are on vacation. The agent faxed our offer/contract to the remaining contact in TX. Well, he (and his assistant, infidelity much?) were both out of the office Friday afternoon and unavailable by phone, email, or fax. So we have an offer just sitting on the table soemwhere waiting to be noticed. SIGH!
I'm not necessarily worried. If we don't get this place, something better will pop up; I wasn't quite ready to move yet, to be honest. If we do, I'm sure there's some reason we needed to wait, even if it's only to teach iron patience (good luck with that). But it is rather nerve-wracking. We're out to do some drive-by's on others that are interesting today. Just a few - see if there's anything we need to see inside later this week.
The 'rents got a brand new GPS so they put all the addresses in there and we're taking the big van meandering as a family. I love silly things like this. There is some talk of a burger picnic as well. You know, yeah, it's a little cheesy or old-fashioned or whatever, but it sounds like a damn good day to me.
Love y'all.
Oh, if we do get this place, don't suppose anyone has an extra fridge or range or portable dishwasher? It doesn't have appliances. Told you it needed work! That's why we can afford it.

The family stuff is the best. I envy you that your family is close. Myfamilyy is spread out accross the US - really sucks to see them maybe once a year.
In the end your family is always there for you..
Let me know what happens with the house.
