ROLLER DERBY, BAYBEEE!!!!
I just fucking LOVE roller derby! I used to watch it as a kid back in the 60's when it was an all-out brawl on the banked track. I didn't understand it at all and generally favored cartoons, but there were occasions when I would watch the skating and the fighting with rapt attention.
Roller Derby went away and I kind of grew up, sort of, and forgot all about it.
Fast forward to July 2010. While browsing around on Netflix, I came upon a series called Rollergirls: Season 1. Rollergirls? I thought all that had gone away! So I put the series at the top of my queue to see what it was all about. I am very happy I did so! Not only was it a great series, but it introduced me to modern day Roller Derby!
HOLY SHIT!! This is the best sport in the Nation!! I went to a bout just last night!!
I am lucky enough to live close to both Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD. Both have Roller Derby Leagues. The schedules of the two leagues allow year-round roller derby!!

By the time I got to Baltimore last night, tickets were sold out. I am a dumb-ass, I should have gotten tickets on-line. I ended up hanging out with another friend in Maryland. He was running the sound for an open mike jam session. How was the game at Du Burns Arena?
